Principals Report

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Wow what a busy two weeks we have had in the school life. Since the last newsletter we have held an Open Board Meeting, Parents Night and a P & C meeting. It was great to see so many parents visiting the classrooms, thank you to everyone who made the time, I did meet many new faces during the evening, I hope you all had an enjoyable time seeing your child’s class for 2018. Certainly the rooms I toured through looked great, it was amazing to see how much hard work had already been produced by the children. Thank you to the amazing group of teachers at this school for their time and preparation for the Open Night. It was wonderful on Monday to discover how many children have been actively looking to do Random Acts of Kindness and families that had searched for more information on the internet. Thank you all for supporting the concept.

SCHOOL BOARD:

The School Board held their first meeting for 2018, which was an open meeting. Several positions were declared vacate as the parent’s terms of office had expired. I would like to thank the past Board members for all their assistance to the school and wish them all the best in their future endeavours. In particular I would like to acknowledge the work Clint Hammond did as a member of the Board and then the Board Chairperson for many years. Clint was certainly a key asset in the discussion surrounding the tunnel with the North Link project.

The School Board members are as follows.

Xavier Teo is the new Board Chairperson and I thank Xavier for accepting this position and look forward to working with him and the other Board members.

Parent Members are Terry Bingham, Claudio Capozzi, Linda Lawrance, Lara Maas and Antionetta Scriva.

Staff Members are Yvonne Arnott, Kirsty Farthing, Marie Gardner, Ben Ker and Jessica Owsiak

Community Member is Alan Radford.

PARENTS AND CITIZENS:

The Parents and Citizens, P & C, held their Annual General Meeting on Monday 26th February. It was encouraging to see how many parents attended plus how willing they were to take on new roles with in the P & C.

The new Office Bearers are as follows;

President - Amy Feleppa
Vice President - Lara Maas
Treasurer - Joanne Robinson
Secretary - Melissa Garrett
Fundraising Coordinator- Keisha Lavigne
Uniform Shop Coordinator- Jo Lowden
School Banking Coordinators: Gus Jeanne & Nicole Capozzi

Room 9

During Week 3, with Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, the students in Room 9 were keen to share love and positive thoughts! Art lessons were spent creating heart shaped collages using tissue paper alongside ‘Valentine’s Flamingos’ made from a range of resources including pipe cleaners, feathers and googly eyes. Each heart included a personal message for staff members which they thoroughly enjoyed reading and very much appreciated! Well done to the students for putting so much effort into each activity! The staff and students at Hampton Park are aiming to continue to spread love and happiness throughout the year by regularly performing random acts of kindness. They look forward to seeing many smiley faces around school!

Hampton’s Recycling List

Once again every class will be doing their bit to help the environment by reducing the amount of things we send to landfill. We encourage everyone to collect the items listed below, and send them to the appropriate classrooms. Your child will be rewarded with faction points for their effort. Thank you for your support in this challenge and remember ‘together we can make a difference!’

Community Notices

Helping Hands

What a fantastic term we have had so far, our GREEN TEAM is currently being formed and will be starting to discuss ideas on how we are going to raise funds for the buddy bench and other community projects.

We are currently collecting the following items

  • glass jars
  • old towels
  • plastic teaspoons

Please remember to drop off all your aluminium cans into the green bucket under the Helping Hands table outside room 5. We are still a long way off from being able to take them to them to the recycling centre so please keep a look out for any cans you may have at home.

Thank you
From everyone at Helping Hands Hampton Park

What age can children travel in the front seat of the car?

In most vehicles the safest seating position to put your child in is the centre of the back seats followed by the position behind the front passenger seat.

The laws states that a child under 4 can't be in the front passenger seat if there are two or more rows of seats. If the child is 4 and above but under 7, they can't be in the front passenger seat unless all the other seats are taken up by passengers under the age of 7.

If there is only one row of seats make sure that the child seat is moved back as far as possible, and is not directly in front of an air bag.

Drivers are legally responsible for ensuring that children are suitably restrained in a vehicle in accordance with Seatbelt rules:

  • From birth up to the age of six months to be restrained in a rearward facing child restraint (for example: infant capsule).
  • From six months up to the age of four years to be restrained in either a rearward or forward facing child restraint with in-built harness.
  • From four years up to the age of seven years to be restrained in either a forward facing child restraint or booster seat restrained by a correctly adjusted and fastened seat belt or child safety harness.
  • Children seven years and over can be restrained in an adult seat belt or booster seats.

Did You Also Know?... Cars are designed for average sized adults NOT children so your child must be a minimum of 145cm before they can safely move out of a booster and into an adult back seat in a vehicle.

Children are often moved into an adult seat belt way too early. Like babies and toddlers, older children are also at risk of serious injury in the event of an accident. Adult seat belts are designed for a minimum height of 145cm but their height is not the only indicator, you should also consider how they sit in the seat.

We recommend that you only consider moving your child out of their booster seat once they have passed the ‘5 Step Test’. Here is what to look for:

  1. Can your child sit with their back against the vehicle seat?
  2. Do your child's knees behind in front of the edge of the seat cushion?
  3. Is the lap belt sitting low across your child's hips and touching their thighs?
  4. Does the sash belt sit across the middle of your child's shoulder?
  5. Can your child stay seated correctly like this for the entire trip without slumping?
