Principal’s Report

Welcome to week five’s school newsletter. Many things have happened in the last 2 weeks. School photos have taken place, PEAC testing of the Year 4 students, Year 3 and 5’s took part in another NAPLAN on-line trial. We had an athletics clinic on Thursday 9th, the West Coast Eagles presentation of the Eagles Cup along with a visit from Eddie the Eagle. We are doing Story Time for the Kindy to Year 3. Preparations have continued for our choir to participate in the One Big Voice event at the Perth Arena this coming Friday. All the children were busy with their speeches, with the grand final being held today.

Early Childhood Playground

A new Nature Playground has been installed in the Early Childhood grounds. The children are having enormous fun and being very adventurous.

Buddy Benches

A big thank you to Mrs Maureen Du Preez, our School Chaplain, and her husband Andre for arranging donations of two Buddy Benches for the school. One has been placed in the Early Childhood playground and one is established next to the Music Room. The buddy bench is a simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship on the playground. Let's spread the message of inclusion and kindness!

The Hon Dave Kelly BA, MLA

The Hon Dave Kelly BA MLA, will be visiting the school on Friday 24th August. Mr Kelly is interested in seeing the finished Nature Playground that the State Government donated funds for though the “Local Projects Local Jobs” program. Thank you to the P & C last year for applying for those funds.

Mr Kelly is also interested in the transformation of the Art Room into a Science Lab/Art room. The school successfully applied last year for a grant. While we have not had a start date yet we have had a preliminary meeting to discuss designs.

Book Week

The children have been invited to dress up as their favourite book character on Wednesday 22nd August. They will be parading at the end of the assembly. All families are welcome to attend. The theme this year is “Find your Treasure” and there are many activities planned for Week 6 which is when Australia wide, we join with the Children’s Book Council to celebrate books and their authors.

Pyjama Day

On Friday 3rd August the Year 6 children held a fundraiser where for a gold coin donation the children and staff could wear their pyjamas to school. Everyone had great fun participating in the day. The Year 6 children raised $298.00 which goes towards their graduation day. Kindergarten 2 class won the prize for the most children in a class in pyjamas with 100% participation, C5 came second with 95%. Well done to the Year 6’s for running a great sales campaign

Helping Hands

Wow! We have had a great term so far in the Helping Hands room, if you have not seen already we have had a room revamp!

We would love for you to come and check it out, we are super proud of our space. We are still collecting cans to raise funds so please keep bringing them in! This term thanks to a wonderful suggestion from Jesslyn we are focusing on a different culture a week and linking them to our activities and food for afternoon teas. Some of our favourite dishes so far have been Afghan cookies, Hokey Pokey Ice cream and Hobak Jeon! We will be having a dress up day on the 13th of September for the whole school. It will be part of our annual Telethon fundraising events, the theme is yet to be decided but we will put posters up around the school in a few weeks, we hope you will all join in to support this great cause! Spaces are filling fast for Monday and Tuesdays both sessions so get in early if you need care.

Thank you Sam and Courtney.

Book Week

Book reviews from a couple of Year 4 students below.

Have you ever walked around in your underpants in public? Well, if you read “The Adventures of Captain Underpants” by author and illustrator Dav Pilkey, you most likely won’t feel so embarrassed after all. This is the first in a series of books based on two fourth graders, George and Harold.

In this comic style of book the author uses easy to read language. The story is about two naughty boys who have a very harsh principal. The two boys are willing to change the behaviour of their principal! One of the boys finds a hypno ring and they decide to make their principal believe he is one of the boys FAVOURITE comic heroes ever, Captain Underpants. It sure leads to trouble!

I loved this book because it is super funny. I would recommend this book to all ages 8 – 13 because they will easily relate to the characters and understand the story.

Year 4

Have you ever been able to turn your principal into a superhero and go on adventures with them? If you haven’t then you should read “The Adventures of Captain Underpants” by author and illustrator, Dav Pilkey. Then you can experience it all. This is the first in a series of books based on two fourth graders, George and Harold.

In this amazing comic book the author uses interesting and descriptive language often using extraordinary adjectives. Two school students turn their grumpy, old principal into a powerful, heroic superhero who saves the world and takes them on his adventures.

I loved this book because to me I feel like the book is telling me not to be afraid of the principal and I would recommend this book to all primary school aged children so they’re not scared of their principal anymore.
