Principal’s Report

Welcome to Term Two at Hampton Park Primary School. We have a few new faces amongst staff and students this term plus a few who have left us. Mrs Kolev left at the end of last term as she is expecting a baby at the end of this month; we welcome Ms Donetta into this role. We also have a new School Psychologist, Ms Garnaut, who will be working here every Monday in a permanent capacity. Unfortunately Mrs Maria Dunn is away on sick leave this term. Mrs Janice Clamp has taken on the Manager of Corporate Services role in Mrs Dunn’s absence. There will be some new faces in the front office during this time. Mr Glen Purdy is continuing on in his role of Acting Principal at Arbor Grove Primary School, the Principal position there has now been advertised for Merit Selection. This has enabled Mr Ker to continue on in the Deputy Principal’s position here at Hampton Park.

We also have a large number of student teachers completing their practical placements at our school. There are fourth year students from Edith Cowan University, ECU, and they will be here all term, in Rooms 1, 4 and C5. We also have ten first year students from ECU in various rooms around the school plus several TAFE students completing their Education Assistant’s course. We hope they all feel welcome at Hampton Park PS.

This term work will commence on creating two new nature playgrounds. Last year the school received a grant from the State Government, through their Local Projects Local Jobs campaign, the school has added to these funds. This means that the children in years 1 – 6 will have access to a playground, next to the basketball courts. The second nature playground is being built in the Early Years compound. We look forward to the children benefiting from these new structures. Further information will follow in the coming weeks. The projects are still out for tender at this stage.

Climbing equipment in the Early Childhood compound is not to be used by any child either before or after school. This is a safety issue and I would appreciate all parents reminding their children of this regardless of whether the child is school age or younger. Parents are welcome to take their children to the climbing equipment at the southern end of the cluster building after school only. The P & C are currently fundraising to purchase some bench seating for this area. If playing there after school I would also like to remind children not to cross the service road and play on the mulch piles, as this is very dangerous. Only children whose parents are with them may stay and play on the climbing equipment.

I continue to encourage the children to use their manners and look for opportunities to perform random acts of kindness. I am also encouraging the children to have no ‘put downs’ to others.

Term two promises to have many interesting activities occurring throughout the term, it is also a term with a heavy emphasis on assessment. NAPLAN testing commences in week three and continues on into week four. This year Hampton Park is participating in the on-line trial program. Mr Ker has already completed practise tests with the year three’s and five’s to ensure logging in and connectivity issues are resolved. The tests are spread out over a two week period of time to allow for computer access at all participating schools, Australia wide. Some schools will still be completing the tests in the traditional manner with paper and pencil.

Term Two is also when the first of two of the summative reports to parents are sent home.

The P & C invites everyone to attend their meetings this term. The meetings will be held on the Monday of week three and week seven of each term, commencing at 6pm. We would love to see some new faces.

Our new Website is now up and running so feel free to check it out. Also please download our school app if you haven’t already done so as we send out a lot of information via this device.

Kindy Enrolments

We are now taking Kindy enrolments for 2019. The earlier we receive our enrolments the easier it makes it for the school to plan for class sizes and associated staffing. Enrolments for Kindergarten close on Friday 20 July. Once we have confirmed enrolments, the parents of new students will be invited to an event to meet staff and find out more about the school and the Kindy program in term 3.

Please spread the word to your friends and family in the area so we can be as prepared as possible for students starting their first year of school. To enrol, contact our friendly office staff or fill out the enrolment form via our website.

Hampton Park Choir goes to the Perth Arena!

We received the most wonderful news last week, our Year 5 choir has been chosen to participate in the One Big Voice Festival at the Perth Arena! (See online for last year’s extravaganza/photos/videos).

This will take place on Friday the 17th August (Week 5 Term 3). We have been booked into the matinee session and will be performing at approximately 12 noon. Parents are encouraged to come and be part of the audience so please save this date. Further details regarding purchase of tickets for parents will be forwarded as soon as they become available.

We are very excited about this wonderful opportunity and have already started to learn the 7 songs we will sing, along with approximately 2000 other students from across Western Australia!

Stay tuned for more details.

Eagles Cup Yr 5 & 6

We will be competing in the Eagles and Fever Cup Interschool Competition on Fridays.

The sports will include AFL, Netball and Soccer. Our opponents will be Mt Lawley, Hillcrest and Inglewood. We will play a home and away game which will mean at least three bus trips. Notes have been sent home and students will be notified if they have been picked in a team.

The teams will be picked on ability, training attendance, playground and classroom behaviour.

If any Parents are able to assist with the Netball or Soccer Teams (Umpiring/Referee) please don't be shy about volunteering your time.

More information will come closer to the event.

Swimming Lessons PP-6

Swimming Lessons will run from week 6 right through week 7 (June 5 - June 15)

Information on times and costs will be sent home shortly. Swimming is a very important skill to aquire, especially considering our West Australian lifestyle and I strongly urge all to take advantage of the "free" lessons offered by the government (Bus and pool entry are the costs).

The year 5 & 6 will also have Eagles Cup games on the two Fridays, they will be timetable to avoid clashes with Swimming Lessons)

Faction Cross Country Yr 1 -6

Date to be decided but most probably in week 9 on Wednesday.

Children compete to earn points for their Faction and place in the Inter School Team (week 2 Term 3.) Children will practice every Phys Ed lesson to build up fitness and it is expected that children attending school on the day will compete to the best of their ability.

Helping Hands

We are so excited to be back after a fun filled school holidays with our sister service at Sutherland Dianella Primary.

Over the holidays we participated in heaps of fun activities including building our own working juke box, mini commonwealth games and visiting the new Optus Stadium for a look behind the scenes.

This term we will be focusing on our fundraisers including our buddy bench pancake morning and our Telethon smoothie morning tea. So far with our can collecting we have managed to raise $12.90 which is a fantastic effort. Not only are we raising funds to be put towards buying a buddy bench for the school, but also the cans are staying out of landfill and are being re purposed and recycled. Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far and please keep those cans coming.

We are excited to start another term and dive in to all the fantastic activities and ideas we have coming up. There are plenty of spaces available for care both before and after school so if you need set days, roster days or even just casual care we can definitely help out. Please feel free to come and see us in room 5 or around the school. Forms are also available online via the link below.
