Principal’s Report

Just like that, half a year has gone by and the school life as always, has been very busy. We are very excited at the moment as we watch the construction of the first of two nature playgrounds. The one that is currently being constructed, is half funded by the WA Government’s Pre Election promise of ‘Local Projects Local Jobs’. This playground will be finished by the end of term. Please view below some photos of the construction of the playground. Owing to budget restraints the plants that are part of the design will be established at a later date. The playground in the early childhood centre will commence soon.

Staff Changes

It is with deep regret that the school will say goodbye to Mr Goddard at the end of this term. Mr Goddard has announced that he is relocating to the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Mr Goddard has been at Hampton Park Primary School for two years and will be greatly missed by the staff, students and parents alike. We would like to wish Mr Goddard the very best for his relocation and may our paths cross again some- time in the future.

Mr Glen Purdy has been asked to remain at Arbor Grove Primary School for term three while the Regional Office runs a recruitment process for the Principal’s role. Mr Ben Ker remains as the Acting Deputy in Mr Purdy’s absence.

Reporting to Parents

The semester one summative reports to parents will be distributed next Wednesday 27th June. The reports will need to be collected by each child’s parent, at the close of school on the Wednesday. The classroom teacher will hand the report to the parents between 3pm and 3:15pm at the classroom. Any reports not collected will be posted home on the Thursday.

Uniforms

I am aware that some parents and children are awaiting orders from the uniform shop still. The Uniform shop coordinator is very sorry for the delay, it appears that some items are on backorder from the suppliers.

Canteen

As you are aware this term the canteen trialled a change to opening days. Unfortunately the Mondays did not have enough trade to make it viable to be open on that day. Commencing next term the canteen will return to the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday opening days.

The canteen would greatly benefit from more volunteers. Sam Barrett, Canteen Manageress, would like to add a few new items to the menu but unfortunately without volunteers in the canteen she doesn’t have time. If you are available, even if only for two hours a day please see Sam in the canteen to add your name to the list.

Ordering uniforms or canteen products from Flexischools. The new school app still allows ordering on line through flexi schools. Once you have downloaded the schools app there is a link that takes you through to Flexischools and then continue as normal. It is not possible to have flexischools within the school app as they are both apps but it is possible to link one app to another, which is what has been done.

Science at Hampton High!

The Year Six’s have been learning about chemical reactions and doing amazing experiments. Recently, we have done an experiment involving dry ice. Dry ice is a substance that is frozen carbon dioxide and is about - 75 degrees! The dry ice gives off a gas when in contact with water. This is because the water is so warm it heats the dry ice which produces the gas. This is a special process called ‘sublimation’ which is when a substance changes state from solid to gas without becoming a liquid first.

The teachers also showed us an experiment involving dry ice and water in a closed plastic bottle causing pressure in the bottle making the plastic bottle explode! It was awesome.

Last week we also saw chemical reactions like ‘elephant’s toothpaste,’ silver nitrate with copper wire and heating copper oxide and hydrochloric acid! It’s a lot of fun.

Netball

Well done to the A team girls who have worked extremely well together throughout Eagle's Cup. Hard work, persistence and great sportsmanship enabled the team to win every game, something they should be very proud of! The girls made positive decisions to benefit the team despite often having to step away from their comfort zones and demonstrated initiative. It has been wonderful coaching such an enthusiastic group of girls and I'm certain they will be fantastic in the upcoming Winter Carnival! A special thank you to our parent umpire Taryn Harding-Pennuto who gave up her own time each week to support and work alongside the team!

Swimming

Congratulations to all the students on their behaviour and participation at swimming lessons. Sadly not everyone can pass but the swimming instructors were impressed with the students’ perseverance and efforts.

Football

On a beautiful Friday afternoon in perfect conditions for football the HPPS School footy team succeeded in winning the Eagles cup! Mt Lawley Primary school posed a considerable threat to the boys from Hampton all season as they were the only team that challenged us. The Mt Lawley boys came to play and it was evident from the first bounce, that they were going to make this a tough day for the ladder leaders. With James ‘tough nut’ Ford getting plenty of attention from the opposition due to his dominant form the Hampton boys had to work hard for the first clearance out of the midfield. As the game progressed the combination of Hampton’s star midfield of ‘Leaping’ Leeroy in the ruck, James ‘Tough nut’ Ford and the explosive Clayton ‘Flea’ Brown begun to take control of the game. The three boys in the midfield were able to provide plenty of opportunities for the powerful Garrison ‘G-Train’ Kenh and the very clever Hayden ‘Haydos’ Young running riot across Half Forward and scoring truly throughout the opening quarter to set the team up with a handy 3 goal lead. With the second quarter starting, the tone was set with the ever reliable Daniel ‘The Boss’ Razmovski hitting a contest hard and reminding the opposition that this was going to be Hampton’s day! With the second half continuing to be a hard fought game the boys from Hampton showed their superior kicking skill and running power to eventually grind the Mt Lawley team down to have a very pleasing 37 point win and bring the Cup back to Hampton Park Primary School. The team are now looking forward to the challenge of taking on three new schools in the Winter Carnival at Altone Park and bringing the wonderful team football that they have played this season, to their big day on Friday.
