Principal’s Report
Term three certainly lived up to its reputation of being a busy term. So much happened throughout the term that it is was sometimes hard to keep track of it all. We had Faction Cross Country, Interschool Cross Country, School Photos, PEAC testing, NAPLAN trial tests, One Big Voice, Story time from the City of Bayswater, Guest Author Norman Jorgensen, Book Week activities, Cooking Club, STEM club, Faction Athletics carnival, Interschool Athletics carnival, and Values day; not to mention all the learning and assessment work that happened in classrooms. A huge shout out to everyone that supported all those activities, thank you for your time energy effort and cooperation. I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing holiday.
Staff Changes
As many of you are aware Mr Glen Purdy, who worked here for many years, has now won the permanent position of Principal at Arbor Grove, congratulations to Glen. Mr Ben Ker has been the acting Deputy Principal during Mr Purdy’s absence. It is with great delight that we announce that Mr Ker has substantially won the position of Deputy Principal at Hampton Park Primary School, this makes Ben permanent to the positon. Ms Jessica Owsiak currently teaching year three’s and four’s has also been given permanency to the school, congratulations to Jessica, it is very well deserved.
Early Childhood Garden
The garden that was planted last holidays by a very industrious group of parents is flourishing well. The Kindergarten children have continued to ensure it is well tended. Many of the plants are ready for picking and the children are planning some great cooking activities to use the amazing food that has been grown. The photos below don’t really do it justice, if you would like to see first-hand the productivity the garden is between the early childhood classrooms and the road. Currently Claire is trying to source some sawdust to spread on the pathways and stepping stones. If anyone knows of a place that would be interested in donating some of these items, please see Katrina Merrells or an office staff member.
Buddy Bench
Thank you to Noranda Church of Christ for our new wooden Buddy Bench. It takes pride of place on our veranda.
Values Day
Another successful morning was spent with children from all year levels taking part in cooperative games. This term we had groups completing jigsaws, building bridges, competing in giant rock paper scissors, creating shapes using bodies plus other activities, build giant cup and plate towers, also creating a friendship tree. It is marvellous to see how well the children mix with others from different year levels.

Assembly
Owing to a clash with Interschool Athletics the assembly from week ten, term three has been swapped to week one, term four. So this term we have an assembly from C3 on the 10th October, C2 Oct 24th, C1 November 7th with Pre Primary having the last classroom assembly on November 28th. Following these assemblies will be the Year Six Graduation assembly on Wednesday Dec 5th at 9am. The year 1 – 5 presentation assembly will be on Tuesday 11th December at 9am. There will be a combined Pre Primary and Kindergarten presentation on Wednesday 12th December at 9am. We hope to see as many parents an extended family members as possible at all the assemblies.
School Survey
As previously mentioned everyone will be invited to participate in a school survey next term. The survey will be open from Monday 22nd October and closes on Friday 9th November. If you have any queries about the survey please see Mrs Arnott.
Excess Desks
The school has approximately 12 student desks that are surplus to our requirements; while they are quite old they are still useable. If anyone would like to have a desk, please see the office staff to be directed as to where to collect them from.

Scitech Excursion
On Friday 14th September, the students and staff from Rooms’ 8 and 9 made their way to Scitech! They were lucky enough to watch two interactive shows (‘Things that Glow’ and ‘Passport to The Universe) as well as learning how to program Ozobots! The day was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Well done to the students for their impeccable behaviour and a huge thank you to those who gave their time to help on the day.

Flag Belt Rugby Championships
Our Flag belt team travelled to Karawara last Thursday to take part as one of 48 teams participating in the Championships. Our team performed very well, winning two, drawing one and losing two games. We placed third in our pool and just missed a place in the quarter finals.
The competition is very strong and our kids were amazed at the "size" of some of their opponents but they dug deep and produced some very good displays. The two losses came from the teams that finished above us, one of those was by 1 try - this team went on to make the Semi-Finals. The second loss was to the team who won our division and we really should have won that game after leading for the majority of the game.
The team played hard on the field, behaved beautifully off it and demolished McDonalds on the way home!!
Interschool Carnival
Congratulations to Upper Swan on winning the 2018 Inter School Athletics carnival. Hampton competed well in the team games section with the Senior Girls, in particular, winning all of their events and the Senior Boys claiming wins in two of the three events. The Intermediates placed in most of their games and the Juniors entertained us!! Thanks to the "coaches" of our games teams, Mr Ker, Miss Owsiak and Mrs Falcone. As usual our kids behaved extremely well and displayed great sportsmanship all day. We finished the day in fifth position, a handful of points behind the fourth placed school, a good achievement after being well last after the Jumps and Throws. I am very proud of our team, especially the Team Games results as we do train hard for those and the rewards were the event wins and placings.
Donation Drive
Next term Hampton Park PS will be collecting clothing, shoes, handbags, jewellery and small household goods for the Good Samaritans. If you had the opportunity to have a Spring Clean during the holidays, and found things you could donate, please bring them to the wet area near clusters 4-6 during week 1 Term 4. The truck will be picking up all the donations on Monday week 2. No donations will be accepted after week 1. We hope that you will be able to support us in this good cause. Thank you.
School Board
Hi fellow parents, I would like to take this opportunity to answer some of your questions about who we are and what we do as the School Board.
The School Board currently has 12 members with parents and community representatives forming the majority. The key things we do include:
- Assist with setting and evaluating the school’s short-term and long-term goals,
- approve proposed resources necessary to fund the goals and priorities;
- provide advice to the school leadership team; and
- create codes of conduct including dress codes for students.
The School Board has a different function from the P & C and would often work independently. Having said that, we continue to seek opportunities and where possible, work with the P & C as we value the important role the community plays in the school.
The School Board has limitations too and is unable to intervene in the control or management of the school, how students are taught and exercise authority over management and teaching staff.
We have recently published the School Board Terms of Reference on the school webpage under “School Board” which further expands on what I have mentioned above. The minutes of our meetings are also published on the same page so the community knows what we have discussed.
Please feel free to email me on xaviertjl@gmail.com if you have any further questions regarding the School Board and I will do my best to respond to them in a timely manner.
Thank you for your time and please remember to complete the survey which opens from the 22nd of October to the 9th of November. Your feedback plays an important part in the development of the school’s 2020 to 2022 Business Plan which will be happening next year.

Laser Tag
On 14th September Room 3 and Room 4 played a very exciting game of Laser Tag. We formed groups with our friends and participated in lots of games.
“In my opinion, I thought Laser Tag was really fun and exciting. My favourite part was when I versed Miss Owsiak.” – Maddison M
“I had lots of fun playing Laser Tag on the oval. My favourite part was the challenge round at the end of the day.” – Jordan C

Technology Day – Friday -19th October 1-3pm
We are all very excited that Technology Day is next Friday 19th October and we are busy finalizing our products for sale. We are also going to show you a movie about the Digital Technology that we have been learning in our classes. There will be items to buy on our business stalls, games, busking, entertainment, drinks and delicious food. We have sent out an invitation to all Parents, Carers and Grandparents this week and we have attached a copy with this Newsletter. Bring along your whole family! Please volunteer to help your child on their class stall for a short time and return the slip before Tuesday the 16th of October so we can plan the rosters. We are looking forward to seeing you there!
STEAM Club
STEAM Club is starting again Wednesday 17th October. We really enjoyed building our mBot robots in Term 3. There were some challenging moments when the students found they had wired them up incorrectly. All the students showed great resilience and took them apart and started again, sometimes more than once. These were the best moments as everyone learnt so much and it was so rewarding when the robots were working! We are now learning how to program them with our IPads.

Milk Bottle Lids
We are still collecting milk bottle lids to make number signs for each room. They can be placed in the tub in Room 1. Thank you.
