Staff Development Day

Principal’s Report

What a great two weeks we have already this term. We had a lovely assembly by C3 in week one and are looking forward to C2’s assembly today Wednesday 24th. It is always wonderful to see so many parents at the assembly.

School Survey

As previously mentioned the School Survey opened on Monday 22nd and will close on Friday 9th November. If you didn’t receive the notification on Friday this is the link again that will take you to the electronic version of the survey.

https://www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/w3QNENTV

As we value your responses and don’t want anyone to miss out paper copies are available in the classrooms or in the office. Additional questions have been added this year. The staff and year five and six students are also asked to complete a survey designed for them. It is a requirement of the Department of Education that we undertake this National Survey every two years. I thank those of you who have already completed the survey.

Technology Day

Last Friday the School held their annual Technology Day. It was amazing to watch all the preparation that has been occurring over the last few months come together to create an amazing well-polished day. The students have gained an immense amount of learning through the entire process; from planning items, creating items, establishing costs of items, best ways for promotion of items, setting up displays, selling items, and packing away. Mrs Salleo has lead the staff through this endeavour and is to be commended on her work. All staff have gone above and beyond in the planning and executing of the Technology Day, it is wonderful to work with such collaborative and cooperative people. Thank you to all the families that gave their time on the day to assist with a large variety of tasks, it wouldn’t have been possible without your help. The children are also to be commended for their work ethics in planning for the day and on the day, they all did amazing work. For those that missed the day there are a few photos to share with you.

Each year half of the funds raised from the Technology Day are donated to a charity. This year we have chosen The Smith Family Foundation. Marie Hayes, Learning Club Specialist with The Smith Family, spoke to the children at last Monday’s assembly, outlying the work they do and why they do it.

School Camp

The year six students and staff are leaving on the 31st October for a three day camp to Dwellingup Adventure Campsite. The activities at camp are design to build upon our school values; Confidence, Co-operation, Honesty, Courtesy, Resilience, Respect and Persistence. The children will be taking part in a large range of activities, including Archery, Kayaking, Commando Course, Flying fox, Mountain bike riding. The staff attending will be Mr Ker, Mr Lee, Mr Hill, Mrs Cunningham and Ms Smith, consequently there will be a few relief staff in the school during those three days.

Halloween

On October 31st the P & C are encouraging the children to dress up for Halloween. The Hungry Hampton’s canteen will be selling Halloween style Recess treats from $1.00. Donation of Spooky Teats from parents would be very welcome. Please deliver these to the canteen.

Mandarin News

Last Saturday, 15th September, two of our year 5 students, Jade B and Nicolle T (Rm 8) represented our school in the Chinese Language Teachers’ Association of Western Australia State Wide Mandarin Speaking Competition. It was held at the Ernst and Young Business School Auditorium of the University of Western Australia. There were 58 contestants across four categories. Both girls did our school proud as they bravely shared about their worlds to an unexpectedly large audience. There was huge excitement and enthusiasm amongst students, parents, teachers and officials from other institutions as they listened to the delightful speeches students from both state and private schools made to share their “Worlds” in Mandarin. What a fine performance! I was told that standard has risen ever since the event started several years ago. It was a wonderful experience for Jade and Nicolle who each received a certificate of participation and souvenir of a mini toy panda. They have told me they can’t wait to participate in the event again next year. Thank you to their parents and siblings who came along to lend their invaluable support and providing huge encouragement to the girls. They were the Bizzill -Tracy, Aaron and Jayden as well as Natalie Turner and Nathan Taylor.

At the same event, we also received results of the Writing Competition which was held in August. We are delighted that two of our six entries have received Certificates of Excellence. Our heartiest congratulations go to Maddison M (Rm3) and Tran Q (Rm 7) for their brilliant efforts. Well done! These were presented to the students by Mrs Arnott at last weeks assembly.

Look at the girls holding their certificates and pandas with joy and pride. Well done!

Kind regards,
Chiew Hoon

School Banking

We are seeking 1 or 2 parents who would like to get involved and become school banking coordinators.

Gus and Nicole have been our parent volunteers for the last 3 years and would like to seek new parents to continue on their roles, to help with students banking and benefit our school.

School Banking involves approximately 1 hour on a Wednesday morning to receive student deposits, balance and enter the deposits through Commonwealth School Banking portal and deliver the deposit bag to a local branch.

Please see Gus or Nicole in the library during banking on Wednesdays, or leave your details at the front office for them to contact you.

Thank you.

Free Seminars Triple P - Positive Parenting Program

FREE SEMINARS

Triple P – Positive Parenting Program

Most parents have times when they find their children’s behaviour challenging.

The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program is one of the world’s most effective parenting programs.

Developed by clinical psychologist Professor Matt Sanders and his colleagues at the University of Queensland, Triple P has been tested with thousands of families through ongoing research over more than 30 years.

Triple P is designed to give parents the skills they need to raise confident, healthy children and to build stronger family relationships. Research has shown it works across cultures, socio-economic groups and in many different family structures.

Triple P doesn’t tell people how to parent. Rather, it offers simple and practical strategies that parents can adapt to suit their own values, beliefs and needs. The benefits can be dramatic and long-lasting.

All parents are invited to attend free a Triple P seminar in Term 4 at West Morley PS. Facilitated by school nurses, the seminar will include a presentation and time for discussion and questions.

When: Friday 9th November 2018
Time: 9.15am – 11.15am
Venue: West Morley Primary School – Library
Cost: Free – however bookings are essential
