Staff Development Day

Principal’s Report

Last week our Year 6 children enjoyed three wonderful fun filled days at their camp. I would like to acknowledge the hard work that was undertaken by staff in the lead up to the camp, and for those who attended with the children. In particular I would like to acknowledge the work Mr Ker has done all year to ensure the camp was a success. It is wonderful to work with so many dedicated people who have been willing to give up their personal time to support the children.

Farewell to Mrs Farthing:

This week the staff and students will say farewell to Mrs Farthing as she departs the school to begin her new role in parenthood. We wish Kirsty all the very best for her and her family’s future. We certainly acknowledge all the extra work Kirsty has undertaken in her three years here and we hope our paths cross again one day in the future.

School Survey:

Thank you to more than 100 families who have completed the School Survey. We have had a great response but ask that you go back and double check that you have clicked submit as we have over half the surveys still pending. The Survey closes this Friday so there is still time to complete it if you haven’t done so already. We have tested the process and it is possible for families to complete the survey for more than one child, using the same device as was used to complete the survey for the first child. Thank you also to the staff and students who have taken the time to complete their surveys. Your responses are very important to the school as we go forward with future planning.

Science Room:

Last year the Education Department offered schools the opportunity to apply to have a room converted into a Science room. Hampton Park Primary was successful with our application, thanks to Mrs Salleo for her work on the application. The work on converting the art room into a Science room will commence on Monday 12th November and continue through until January. Once completed it will be a dual purpose room that teachers and students can use for Science and Art. We are very excited about what will be an amazing transformation.

Cluster 2 Assembly:

On Wednesday the 31st October Cluster 2 hosted a fantastic assembly. All the children had written informational reports about sharks during their classroom work and two children read them to the assembly. We learnt all about a range of different sharks and the different features they have. After that they sang a song called “Baby Shark”. Thank you cluster 2 for a very enjoyable and interesting assembly.

Helping Hands

THANKYOU to everyone who had donated items to out Animal Protection Society collection, we took these items down on the 27th of October and the volunteers were very appreciative. This is an ongoing collection so you have any cat items we still have a collection box in room 5, items include cat food and cat litter and any stationary items.

With this project now quieting down the children are keen to pick up our next community project. They have decided to focus their efforts on making care packages that will be distributed to refuge and rehabilitation centres through the salvation army. We have had some donations from other services so far including mini toothpaste and travel shampoo. We will be sending the children shopping over the coming weeks to purchase some other items with the remainder of our fund raised money but we still need some help.

We have a collection box in our room and are looking for items we can put into care packages! these items are

  • toothbrushes (individually wrapped)
  • travel size items eg body wash, conditioner, deodorant, sun cream and moisturiser
  • bars of soap
  • small bottles of water
  • feminine products
  • individually packaged goods in snack size
  • canned items
  • and long life items like spaghetti, pasta sauce, rice, easy make meals

Any support you can provide is much appreciated and all goes to help others who are less fortunate.

Our bookings are filling up fast and morning sessions are getting busy so if you need care please let us know before 6pm the night before to avoid disappointment of no spaces being available. You can enroll online at the link below and click enrol, you are welcome and encouraged to enrol even if you do not need the service straight away as the enrolment process has a few steps to it before confirmation is received, this also means that should you be running late and permitted we have the space we are able to collect your child/children with short notice to avoid them waiting around with the school.

Free Seminars Triple P - Positive Parenting Program

FREE SEMINARS

Triple P – Positive Parenting Program

Most parents have times when they find their children’s behaviour challenging.

The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program is one of the world’s most effective parenting programs.

Developed by clinical psychologist Professor Matt Sanders and his colleagues at the University of Queensland, Triple P has been tested with thousands of families through ongoing research over more than 30 years.

Triple P is designed to give parents the skills they need to raise confident, healthy children and to build stronger family relationships. Research has shown it works across cultures, socio-economic groups and in many different family structures.

Triple P doesn’t tell people how to parent. Rather, it offers simple and practical strategies that parents can adapt to suit their own values, beliefs and needs. The benefits can be dramatic and long-lasting.

All parents are invited to attend free a Triple P seminar in Term 4 at West Morley PS. Facilitated by school nurses, the seminar will include a presentation and time for discussion and questions.

When: Friday 9th November 2018
Time: 9.15am – 11.15am
Venue: West Morley Primary School – Library
Cost: Free – however bookings are essential
