Principal’s Report
What a busy two weeks it has been. We had a wonderful assembly with the students from Cluster 1. The assembly focussed on the importance of friendships and it linked to the school’s core value which was a timely reminder to students about the importance of being a good friend and what that looks like. Congratulations to all the students from Cluster 1 and Mrs Falcone on a terrific assembly. Cluster 3, Cluster 4 and Cluster 5 all headed off to Perth Zoo on a well-earned excursion last week, where the students got to enjoy all of the animal exhibits.
Kindy open Day
On Saturday 10th of November we opened the doors of the Kindy and Pre-Primary rooms between 10am and 12pm and invited our parents to come and visit. We had over 50 people come to the school with their 2019 kindy and pre-primary students to allow them to see the rooms and play in the playground. It was a wonderful opportunity for the parents, grandparents and friends to see our facilities and meet our dedicated staff. We should also thank Mrs Merrells, Mrs Annett, Ms Bettridge, Mrs McLaren, Ms Herrington, Mrs Morrison and Mrs De Jonk for coming back to school to host this event. Feedback from the people that attended was that it was a very valuable and enjoyable event.
Incursions
We have been fortunate to have had some quality educational incursions over the last two weeks. The first of these was a recycling education program for our Year 5 & 6 students where they learned about the importance of waste management and minimisation through reducing, reusing and recycling. An explanation on how to adopt the 3R’s, why implementing them is important for the environment. The students also learned about what happens to recyclables post kerbside collection at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).
On Tuesday November 20, St John’s Ambulance will be holding three short sessions demonstrating what to do if you are bitten by a snake. The three sessions will be held in the library and children from Room 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 & 9 will be attending. This is a timely reminder for all parents, students and staff to be aware that snakes will be starting to come out and everyone needs to be careful.
Swimming Carnival
After a strong response from students we are pleased to announce that we will be able to hold a Swimming Carnival at Bayswater Waves on Friday November 30. Mr Lee is busily arranging a suitable schedule that will not create too much of an impost on classroom time for students and staff and the school has worked very hard on making this an affordable exercise. Notes regarding the Swimming Carnival went out on Monday November 19. Payments are due by this Friday 23rd.
Thank You Morning Tea
On Monday November 19 an invitation went out to all parents. The invitation provided information regarding our ‘Thank you morning tea’. This is where staff would like to thank all our Parents/Caregivers for the help and support you have offered and provided during the 2018 school year. The morning tea is on Tuesday November 27 in the Staffroom, commencing at 10:30am and concluding at 11:30am. We would love to see as many of you there as possible.
Important Dates Coming Up
Hampton Senior High School, John Forrest Secondary College & Morley Senior High School are all having their Orientation Days on November 26. Governor Stirling is having their Orientation Day on November 29, Kiara College December 3 and Mount Lawley on December 6.
Cluster 1 Assembly
On the 7th November the students in Cluster One performed their assembly item. The item was show cased as a cooking show named “Master Chef Junior.” Our chef’s Willow P and Izaija V discussed the important ingredients that we need to make a good friend. These ingredients included a jar of kindness, spoonful of listening, a tube of trust, a carton of patience, a kilo of forgiveness, box of encouragement, a pot of respect, a bag of loyalty and finally a bottle of fun! The students then ended their performance by singing “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” Cluster One should be very proud of their item and their efforts to read publicly in front of the whole school. We all would like to say a big thank you to the parents who helped their child practise their parts at home and to Mrs Firby for her artist skills in making our props.
Mrs Falcone
Cluster One Teacher.
Kindy
This year several parents from Kindy have created a beautiful and delicious kitchen garden for us all to enjoy in the Early Childhood Area. Over the past term we have been growing zucchini, basil, tomatoes, parsley, beetroot and silver beet to make a yummy meal. This week the Kindy's have had fun harvesting our garden to make some lovely pasta sauce to go with our homemade pasta. The children had great delight in picking, smelling, cooking and tasting all the scrumptious flavours.

Room 1 Artwork
