Principal’s Report
We have had a terrific response from all our families for the children to attend swimming lessons. If you have not paid, late payments are still being accepted. We acknowledge that the timing is not ideal, as mentioned in the last newsletter; however, the importance of children learning to swimming in Australia cannot be emphasised enough.
The 2018 National Drowning Report by Royal Life Saving Australia (RLSA) has been released and shows 249 people drowned in Australian waterways in 2017-18. Approximately 75% of all Australians live within 50 kilometres of a beach and with the increase in backyard pools it is more imperative than ever for your child to learn to swim.
Children under five are the age group most at risk of drowning and swimming pools are known to account for a large proportion of drowning deaths. An average of 30 children under the age of five have drowned in Australia each year for the past 10 years.
Reports
I would like to thank the teachers for all the extra hours they have recently needed to do in order to compile the students Semester One Reports to Parents. The reports will be distributed directly to the parents by the classroom teachers on Wednesday 3rd July. We ask parents wherever possible to collect the report from the teacher at the classroom between 3:00 and 3:15 p.m. This is not an interview time; time slots for interviews may be made for later dates.
Voluntary Fees and Contributions
Thank you to the families who have already paid their voluntary contributions for this year. Of the expected amount we budget to receive we have received approximately 70%. This allows the school to spend extra on resources for the children that possibly could not be afforded otherwise.
Class Dojo
It is terrific to some many families connected to their child’s class teacher through the use of Class Dojo. There are still a few families that have yet to join the class groups. The Class Dojo is used as a part of a positive rewards program in the classrooms. It is also a method of convening to parents upcoming events in the classroom or school. Some parents have also used Class Dojo to ask the teacher questions. Messages will be responded to in a timely manner where possible but I do ask though that you respect the right of the teacher not to reply when it is after business hours.
Leavers Shirts
It is great to see all the Year 6 children in their Leavers shirt. It is not too late to order one! The children designed the shirts themselves this year.
Playground Extension
Many families may have noticed the extension to the nature playground in the early childhood area. The Firby family donated a boat to the school, which has now been painted in the school colours and looks sensational. The limestone blocks need to have the edges bevelled before the children play in the area.

Vacations During School Terms
Thank you to all the parents that are using the school app or website to notify the school of your child’s absence. Please note we have had to make changes to the absence request note kept in the school office. As per the Department of Education policy the Principal cannot approve leave during term time. Any absence for holidays will be recorded as an Unauthorised Vacation.
Students Unwell
We are sorry to hear of the high number of students who have now been diagnosed with influenza. Thank you to the parents that have kept their child/children at home. Please note we have also had high numbers of students with gastroenteritis, these children will also need to stay at home. We hope all children make a speedy recovery.
Assembly
Last fortnight we had a terrific assembly lead by Room 9; they projected into the future so they could reminisce about the past, reflecting on their times at school. This week’s assembly will be hosted by Room 1. All parents and friends are welcome to attend.
Congratulations to the following students for receiving Merit certificates and Value awards.

From Manager of Corporate Services
The school’s preferred method of payment for monies received is by direct deposit. It is very important to ensure you put your child’s name in the reference section.
We had a payment of $35 deposited into our account on 14th June and do not know who it belongs to. If you have made a deposit for this amount recently please email the office hamptonpark.ps@education.wa.edu.au.
Thank you.

Kindergarten Enrolments
We are now taking Kindy enrolments for 2020. The earlier we receive our enrolments the easier it makes it for the school to plan for class sizes and associated staffing. Enrolments for Kindergarten close on Friday 26th July. Once we have confirmed enrolments, the parents of new students will be invited to an event in Term 3 to meet staff and find out more about the school and the Kindy program.
Please spread the word to your friends and family in the area so we can be as prepared as possible for students starting their first year of school. To enrol, contact our friendly office staff or fill out the enrolment application form via our website.
Swimming Money
This is a reminder that swimming money was due on the 17th June. If you have handed in your swimming form and indicated that you have paid via bank transfer, please double check that you have actually transferred the money. We have received several forms that have bank transfer ticked but as yet we have received no money. Thank you.
Lost School Jackets
Please check your child’s uniform jacket to ensure they have the correct one. We have had several jackets lost that had the students names on them.
Sports Report
Eagles Cup Reports
On the 31st May 2019, Hampton travelled (we walked, much to some of our athlete’s amazement and dismay!!) to Noranda for the next instalment of our Eagles Cup crusade.
The most celebrated event this week was the SOCCER team's amazing recovery from 4-1 down at half time to finishing the game 5-4 winners!!
During and after the game / walk home interview with Goal-Keeper Abinav, an insight into this amazing result was gleaned.
Abinav felt that in the first half his defensive unit was leaving him (as the keeper) a little exposed as they were pushing up too high. He credited Mr Evangelista with an awe inspiring half time address that fired the troops up for a second half mission (Sir Alex Ferguson like he said!!). Well whatever he said worked, my defensive unit played deeper and the strike force of Darius and Cian hit two goals each to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
NETBALL
Our two teams continued their good season so far. The B team edged closer to a drought breaking win and had chances to steal a victory. The A Team recorded another win and have sent in this write up for your enjoyment.
Last Friday we played Noranda Primary. We did win but it was a tough one. We all agreed we could have done better and will all try harder this week. We could all try harder to defend and work the ball down the court to slow the game down if it is getting away from us. Over all it was a great, testing, learning game for us.
(I like the critical analysis of their performance and identification of areas to improve, definitely higher order skills for sure).
FOOTBALL
The team continued its dominant run with a commanding 19:20 (144) to 0:1 (1) win.
BASKET BALL
Another great game by the newest team on the block - The coaches (Mrs Cunningham and Mr Baker) are very happy with the attitude towards sharing game time and responsibilities. The result being Hampton LOTS defeated Noranda NOT AS MANY.

Helping Hands
Our children have loved being hands on this past week in learning about camping. We explored how to put up a tent and worked together to create our own camping grounds. We also made an Australian version of smor’es. We have also been trying different foods, this included making hamburgers! Being that we are unable to use meat we had to come up with a different option, so we decided to trial our vegetarian sausages and turn them into patties. We then added them to bread and salad with a special sauce. It turns out we don’t need meat to make delicious burgers. We loved them so much we wanted to share the recipe with you. Hope you enjoy.
Veggie Burgers.
500g (estimate) bread crumbs
2 carrots grated
¾ c cheese grated
1T all purpose seasoning
1 small onion diced
¼ c oil
Water to combine
Method
Mix all ingredients in a bowl, add more breadcrumbs if needed.
Use water to help stick all ingredients together.
Mixture should be able to be formed into balls/patties/fingers.
Shape as desired and cook in a frypan or over (frypan will help get crispy)
Serve in a roll or bread with cheese, tomato and lettuce.
Add Dijon mustard and mayo for extra flavour.
Enjoy
