Principal’s Report
I would sincerely like to thank Mr Ben Ker for the work he did as Principal while I was on Long Service Leave for the first four weeks of term. Mr Ker by all accounts did a superb job as Principal; for me it was wonderful to know that I could leave the leadership of Hampton Park Primary in such capable hands. Thank you Ben. Also many thanks to Adele and Mike for their continued successful work as Deputy Principals in my absence.
Staff Changes
A merit select process will be run later this term to fill the vacancy of Deputy Principal created by the retirement of Mrs de Jonk. With the role commencing in 2020, Mrs Adele Salleo and Mr Mike Lee will continue two days a week each in the role until the end of this year. Mrs Salleo is available on Mondays and Tuesdays and Mr Lee on Thursdays and Fridays. As a result, Mr Lee will not be taking the majority of the students for Health this semester; Mrs Michelle Avichzer will be undertaking that role. Mrs Avichzer is also teaching in C3 on the Mondays and Tuesdays. I look forward to working with Adele, Mike and Michelle again.
One Big Voice
The One Big Voice concert is this Friday 30th August at the Perth Arena. We have 48 children attending as members of the school choir. Congratulations to Sara M and Gabby O who successfully auditioned for solo singing roles and to Holly M for her Master of Ceremonies role. If you still wish to book tickets to attend you can do so through Ticketek. The performance is the 12:30pm session. You need to book in the Beethoven section in order to have the best viewing angle of our students. Many thanks to Mrs Clare Moore for all the additional work she has done in preparing the students for this amazing event.
Congratulations
Last Tuesday Mr and Mrs Speldewinde welcomed the newest little member to their family, Oliver Parker Speldewinde. Born on August 20th, at 9.49am, weighing a tiny 2.79kg and 48cm long. We wish them all the very best at this special time.
Public Speaking Assembly
Last Wednesday we held the final of the 2019 Public Speaking Competition. Congratulations to the finalists (mentioned below) and also every student who has been involved over the last five weeks. A special thank you to the judges, Mrs Jan deJonk and Mrs Joanna Carroll, for their fair and transparent feedback to the speakers who were of a very high standard and made the judging difficult. We would like thank the parents for the support they have provided to their children with this.

Book Week
This week is Book Week and we are having a fun filled week celebrating with lots of activities including book readings, dress up parade, a quiz, treasure hunt and Pre/1’s Book Week assembly. At this assembly the Karen Kennett Book Award will be presented by a student who has shown a great interest in reading in the Library. Please make a special effort this week to read to your children no matter how old they are to promote the value of reading a good book together.
Book Week Parade
Tomorrow our students are encouraged to wear a costume of their favourite book character. This will be part of a week of fun-filled activities around the Book Week theme of Reading is My Secret Power.
Voluntary Contributions
Thank you to everyone who supports the school by paying their voluntary contributions. I know we do receive funds from the Government for the managing of the school, however sometimes it doesn’t seem quite enough to cover all the extra bits and pieces. We can only afford to do extras like this through the generous donations of those who pay their voluntary contributions. It is $60 per student and payment plans are welcome. Please discuss with Mrs Clamp in the front office if you would like to make such an arrangement.

Year 6 Fundraiser
On Friday 16th August the Year 6’s hosted a fundraiser which was a Cupcake stall. We had a large number of cupcakes to sell so thank you so much to the parents and students who baked and donated these. In total we raised $600 which will be going towards our Year 6 Graduation.
Thank you to our students and families who supported us and helped raise such a large amount.

Pre Primary 2
Last week the children in Pre-Primary 2 spent some time viewing and appreciating artwork by Jackson Pollock. Taking inspiration from his technique, our kids had a fantastic time experimenting with flick painting outside. Their resulting work looked amazing. The lawn and easels looked pretty special too!

Author Visit – Dr Cameron Stelzer, The Story Doctor
On Friday 20th September, we have a special visit from Author and Illustrator Dr Cameron Stelzer. Dr Cameron is visiting Hampton Park Primary School to run workshops with our Year 3 to 6 students. Cameron will be engaging students in a writing workshop exploring exciting and descriptive language. The students are reading his fabulous books in their classes. We are looking forward to a great day! A note for the students involved with the cost and details will be sent out prior to the big day.
In conjunction with the Author Visit, Hampton Park PS families have a special opportunity to purchase signed and personalised copies of Cameron’s books at special prices. Individual books are $15 each and there are also exclusive book sets available. Students will receive an order form on the day of the workshops. Forms and payment can be returned to the office Monday 23rd September.

Perth Scorchers
The Scorcher's Bus parked on the school oval on Wednesday Afternoon and the players within jumped out to deliver a fun, fast paced and enjoyable cricket experience for 50 of Hampton Park's keenest cricketers. Our students, ranging from Pre Primary through to Year Six played Scorcher Ball, Rapid Fire and Cricket Ball Circus to practice, batting, bowling and fielding skills. Some lucky kids even went home with a cricket ball as a prize!!!!

Seda Cricket Clinic
A wet Friday morning greeted 12 SEDA students as they gathered to deliver Cricket Clinics to some of our classes. The year ones did a Mascot Challenge and had many laughs whilst practicing catching and fielding skills. Some of our older classes played fun games similar to the Scorcher's Have a Go program.

Faction Athletics Carnival
The Faction Athletics Carnival is rapidly approaching!! Mr Lee would love to hear from any parents/older siblings who would be available to assist with some activities on Wednesday 4th September. Assistance in the jump pit, raking, measuring, recording would be most appreciated.
Cheerleading Workshop
Last week Hampton Senior High School visited our Year 6 students to promote their Cheerleading program. The students participated enthusiastically and had fun practising some of the new skills they were taught.

Recycling
Room 1 is continuing to collect old tooth brushes and tooth paste tubes. Please do not throw them in the bin as they take years to break down and they contaminate the soil. We send them to Terra Cycle and they are made into park benches. Your child will receive 100 Faction Points for each item brought in.
Each class is responsible for a different area of recycling so please check the purple chart in each room to see how you can help in other areas to reduce waste going to landfill.
Please remember if we work together we can make a difference!

Helping Hands
The children at Helping Hands have been super busy rearranging our room. Over the holidays we got new carpet so have been finding the best layout and design to create a wonderful learning space.
This term we are starting to focus on travel, we have set a dramatic play space like our own mini flight center and have some guest speakers coming in to talk with the children and extend their interest in learning about how holidays and flights are booked. Over the coming weeks we will be looking at different countries and cultures and learning some new interesting facts about the countries we are focusing on. We are hoping to run our 2019 Telethon event toward the end of this term/ start of next term and we will keep you updated on our plans.
Numbers are increasing and spaces are filling up very fast, if you are planning to use our service or think you may need it in the future we advise starting the enrolment process before you require care as we cannot take bookings on the day if an enrolment has not been completed. Enrolments can be done online at the Helping Hands Network site and will be sent through directly to us once completed. We are having so much fun in service and we are enjoying meeting our new friends. We look forward to seeing you around the school. Please have a look at some of the awesome things we have been doing. Check out the pictures of some of the cool things we have been up to since last term.
