Principal’s Report

Term three is nearly at an end and what a busy term it has been, particularly for the students. Alongside their classroom curriculum work the students have been very busy with a wealth of other activities designed to complement the curriculum work. We have had Faction and Interschool Cross Country, Public Speaking Competition, Book Week activities, One Big Voice, Athletics carnival, PEAC testing, school photos, various incursions with the Police and Fire Brigade plus the author incursion last Friday, and the Interschool Athletics carnival being held today. We’ve also had several fundraising activities from the P & C and the Year Six children, along with Helping Hands fundraising this week for Telethon.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and happy holiday. The Royal Agricultural Show is on during the first week, which I personally find a wonderful time to show the city children aspects of rural life that makes up the greater percentage of Western Australia. Discount tickets are available from the link below. Please use the promo code ROYALSHOW19996 which will ensure a portion of each ticket sold goes directly to the P & C fundraising.

School Photos

Thank you to all our families for the wonderful way the children were presented for the School Photos last week. While the children are always neat and tidy it was obvious that some extra effort had gone in to spruce everyone up.

Woolworths Promotional Seeds

Currently Woolworths has a promotion where they give out little tubs with a sheet containing vegetable or herb seeds. If you have an opportunity to receive some but don’t wish to use them yourself, please bring them into the school as Mrs Cardy would be very happy to plant them in the school’s vegetable garden.

Students Not Returning

If you have a child who is not returning to Hampton Park next year would you please advise the office as soon as possible as planning for 2020 is already underway. This obviously doesn’t apply to the year six children, who hopefully by now are all enrolled into a high school for next year.

Professional Development Day

Please remember that Monday 14th October is a Professional Development Day. The students do not attend school on that day.

Car Park

Parents please remember that children walk through the carpark in the Kiss and Ride area. Please take care and drive slowly though the car park to avoid collision with others.

Canteen

The school canteen is running low on volunteers to assist with lunch orders and counter sales. If you are able to spare even one hour per week on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday it would be greatly appreciated. Please see Sam Barrett, Canteen Manageress, if you are interested in assisting.

Administration Building Update

Next year the school is having a new Administration building being built. The building will be placed on the eastern side of the cluster building where the current playground is. The playground will be relocated to the space between the cluster building and the classroom buildings. The cleaners shed will be relocated, as will the large green storage shed. The new playground area will have grass featured at either end. It was decided at the last planning meeting that the builder will take on the responsibility of installing the benches that the P & C purchased with funds raised last year to be installed around the new playground location. The building won’t commence until next year.

Mandarin News Update

Last month, 6 entries were submitted for the Chinese Language Teachers’ Association (CLTAWA) State-wide Chinese Writing Competition. We are happy to announce that of the 6 maximum entries submitted, 5 were awarded Certificates of Excellence. There were 26 schools that participated, with over 140 entries submitted. Congratulations to all our students who worked very hard to produce work of a very high standard. They will be presented with their certificates at the next assembly.

We also have 3 HPPS Mandarin Ambassadors at the recent Speaking Competition held by the same organisation. On Saturday 14th September, Bronte S, Jade B and Nicolle T took part in the competition. Prior to the event they had practised very hard and did a fantastic job delivering their speeches with expressions and actions. Jade and Nicolle, their second time around, upped their game. Not only did they memorise their speeches, they brought props along too. Bronte, in her debut performance, showed great confidence and presence and I am sure she will certainly do even better next year. Although her Mum had said in jest that she would not allow her to participate again. I was blamed for wasting 3 hours on a Saturday afternoon as she was bored stiff, having to sit through the speeches in a foreign language. When I told Mrs O’Neill, she said tongue- in -cheek, “spare a thought for a non-English speaking person in an English-speaking environment!”. So right, Mrs O’Neill.

I would like to thank the parents and siblings of the girls for enduring the 3 hours! Thank you for the support and encouragement you gave the girls so they could enjoy their learning of a second language. Below are some pictures of the girls receiving their participating awards and a group picture with Ms Gong.

The videos of the girls at the competition will be screened next Friday at the Values Assembly.

Descriptive Writing Incursion

There was a great deal of excitement on Friday as Dr Cameron Stelzer entered the school. He was here to teach the students in Cluster 5 and Rooms 1 to 9 how to use descriptive language in their narrative writing. He is a Superstar Author and Illustrator in our school for his Stroogle, Scallywags, Pie Rats and drawing books. You could have heard a pin drop as the students repeatedly rushed to write down their exciting ideas that were full of the descriptive language that Cameron had inspired.

The students had also prepared Artwork to show him. He has selected some of the Artwork to receive a prize. These prizes will be sent to the school for them after the holidays. Cameron left forms for the students to return if their parents would like to purchase a signed personalised book for them. Please return this to the box in the office by Friday.

Kindy Enrolments 2020

Do you know anyone in the community looking for a Kindy place for 2020? We have limited places still available. Applications forms are due NOW. For more information, please contact the school office.

Tooth Brushes

It is recommended that toothbrushes are replaced every three months and a good way to remember when to change them is at the start of each season. Spring has sprung so it is time to change the toothbrushes at your house. If you are replacing them please send the old ones to Room 1. We send them to Terra cycle and they are made into park benches. It takes 100 years for a tooth brush to break down and contaminate the soil. Please don't throw them in the bin! Your children will get 100 faction points for each toothbrush and/or tooth paste tube they bring to Room 1. Remember together we can make a difference.
