Principal’s Report

Our two painters at the school have made excellent progress now that the rain has stopped again, so the two murals are shaping up really well. If you haven’t seen the walls, please take a moment to visit the school and view the outstanding work by Stephie Crosby and Nicole Cotterell.

It has been a pleasure having so many future teachers currently or recently completing their practical placements at the school. They always bring an added bonus to the classroom, giving more one to one time with the students, which is always advantageous.

We have a space still available in one of our Kindergarten classes next year. If you are aware of anyone still looking for a placement we would love to hear from them otherwise Weld Square and Morley Primary still have vacancies. If your child is not returning to Hampton Park Primary School and the school has yet to be advised, please do that as a matter of importance. One child does make a difference when we are creating new class groupings. If you haven’t enrolled your year six child into a high school for 2020 then please do that as a matter of urgency. The year six children do have an orientation day at the high school in December and it is imperative for your child that their name is on a list ready to go.

Please be advised that vandals/thieves are currently operating in the area.  Two cars have been broken into in the last week, one on Hamersley Avenue and one on Paine Road during school hours or just after.  I would remind everyone not to leave valuables in their cars.  We have also had reports of houses being broken into last week, again on either side of the school.  We are hoping for extra support from School Security, plus the City of Bayswater will do extra ranger patrols around the area.  If anyone does see any suspicious behaviour around the school please ring 1800 177 777 (freecall) or the police on 131 444.

Last Friday’s Maths and Science day was a highly successful event in the school’s calendar. Thank you to all staff for your amazing involvement and in particular thank you to Ms Angela Falco for coordinating a fabulous day of learning. Mike from World of Maths spoke to me about how he visits a different school daily and he felt Hampton Park was one of the best for the students using their manners and being willing to assist with setting up. Congratulations to everyone for that compliment.

Absent children and Reporting to parents: The teachers are very busy with assessments and data entry into the reports to parents. Please be aware that your child’s attendance at school makes a significant impact on your child’s results. Our current attendance rate is down to 92.6% compared to last year at 93.6%. If a student’s attendance falls below 90% then that student is, considered at risk of not reaching full potential. Currently 53 of our students fall into that category. Another 29 fall even lower to be consider at a moderate risk with another six students being in the severe category. Please be mindful of the impact keeping your child home from school has on their future learning.

Our recent dress up days were very well supported by the children, thank you parents for your assistance in this. The year six fundraising day made $360.65. The Halloween day was arranged by the P & C as a free dress up day. The P & C are now planning their free end of year disco, which will be on Friday December 6th.

School uniform orders

Please note if you have ordered a uniform through Tudor Uniforms, the orders are delivered to the school on a Thursday ready for you to collect on the Friday. We have some still waiting to be collected from last week.

Maths and Science Day

Last Friday the students enjoyed all things Maths and Science at the school's biennial Maths and Science Day. Everyone participated in Maths and Science activities in the classrooms and had the chance to see how Maths is applied to everyday life situations and explore mathematical principals in a hands-on incursion. The World of Maths incursion offered an ideal opportunity for students to communicate their Maths ideas and answers with other students by working cooperatively in small teams. The students learnt that Maths and Science is everywhere, it is important and of course it is fun! Come and see the photo display outside the school office.

Scitech Spacedome - Day and Night Show

On Friday 1st November the students from Kindy, PP1 and PP2 had a visit from Scitech who brought their Spacedome with them. Meta from Scitech took us on a journey through our day time sky and showed us the exciting changes that happen into the night sky. The children learnt about where the sun rose and were asked to predict where it set. They were shown cardinal directions and were very pleased when they were able to identify that w for West would be the next point. Everyone was very excited when the Spacedome and the sky went dark and they were shown the planets and then the stars lit up. Meta showed the children how to find the Southern Cross and the Pointer stars. Everyone enjoyed going into the Spacedome.

Community Notices

Hello wonderful families, it is hard to think that it is week 4 already, this term is going so fast and before we know it Christmas holidays will be upon un. The children at Helping Hands are currently focusing on the school values and how they can show them each day. Last weeks was CONFIDENCE and we discussed what it means and how we have shown it. This week we will be focusing on RESPECT!

We are super excited to have been involved in Telethon again this year and being invited on twice to be a part of the telethon weekend broadcasting. Our telethon bake sale raised $111 and with the assistance of our sister services our grand total was $318!!! Thank you so much to everyone who supported our fundraising this year and we are looking forward to going bigger and better next year.

We have started a new project focusing on social media. The children have been brainstorming all the things they like about particular social media platforms. With this information we are designing our own in service version on the white board. Along with this discussion we have been looking at how we can stay safe online so we can enjoy social media platforms but keep ourselves protected.

If you have any questions regarding bookings please do not hesitate to call us or come in and see us in room 5.

Thank you

Sam and Courtney
