Principal’s Report

The school year has started reasonably smoothly; most students are now back at school and all programs are up and running. Room One has been able to relocate back into their classroom after the ceiling was replaced and walls painted during the first two weeks. It was wonderful meeting and greeting so many parents at the open night last week. Thank you to all who visited.

School Chaplain

Our new school Chaplain, Jaxon Johnston, will be commencing on Tuesday 3rd March. More information about contacting Jaxon will be in the next newsletter.

Administration Building

The new Administration building is set to open for the commencement of next year. The contract for a Builder will soon be going out to tender. We have had many meetings with the Architectural firm, Department of Finance and Department of Education representatives sorting out many items before plans are quoted on. It will be a few more months before any site work commences.

School Starting Times

The children are required to be inside their classroom ready to commence work at 8:45am daily. Any child that arrives after that time is marked late on the role by the Teacher.

Previously we have allowed children to go straight to their classroom if they are late up until 9:00am, after which they were required to go to the office for a late note.

Effective from today children that arrive after 8:50am will need to go to the office for a late note. Specialist classes commence at 8:55am, so by 8:50am some classes are already walking to their specialist class, making it impossible for the class Teacher to mark the role if your child is late to school.

For a child arriving late to class it is often very traumatic for them. Human nature has everyone turning to look who is coming through the door, which is very disturbing for some children. Also the Teacher has explained the timetable for the day by then, possibly any changes or extra events are discussed and the child that arrives late misses all this vital information. Children are also encouraged to be on time or slightly early as this sets them up for good practise into the future for appointments or work commitments. Ideally children should arrive at school after 8:30am and before 8:45am. It will be wonderful for the orderly working environment of the school if everyone supported this.

Talk 4 Writing

This is the new name of the new writing program we have adopted here at Hampton Park. The Teachers are implementing this into the regular routine of the classroom. The feedback to date has been very positive.

P & C

The Parents and Citizen Association (P&C) held their AGM last Monday 17th February. Nearly all positions have been filled, they do however still require a Secretary. The Secretary’s role is to take minutes at the meeting and email out the agenda etc. prior to meetings. If you or someone you know are interested in the role, please contact myself or Amy Feleppa for more information or see the P&C Facebook account hppspandcmorley.

The P&C executive is comprised of the following members:

President – Amy Feleppa
Vice President – Kayla Popperwell
Secretary – To be filled
Treasurer – Jo Robinson
Fundraising Coordinator – Keisha Lavigne

School Board

We had a terrific response to the vacant positions on the School Board, three positions were vacant and six parents nominated to fill the roles. Although the parents have held a vote we cannot announce the new parent representatives until they have completed a screening clearance process with the Education Department. The School Board has established a new email account, if any parent wishes to contact a member of the school Board please use this new account to do so. The address is hpps.schoolboard@gmail.com

School Assemblies

Every fortnight we have an item assembly, all parents and family members are welcome to attend these assemblies. The children from Pre Primary to Year Six attend, with the Kindergarten children joining in next term. These assemblies are on the even weeks of the term. Today’s assembly is hosted by Room Seven. On the odd weeks we do have an assembly, this is what we refer to as an ‘in-house’ assembly. It is a short assembly where reminders of upcoming events or meetings are given to the children.

School Councillors

The students in Year Six are invited to nominate for Student Councillors in Term One. An election was held at the end of week one and the following six students were successful in their nomination:

Jayden B
Holly M
Sofija P
Luca S
Bronte S
Madie S

Next term another six children will be given an opportunity and then in Semester Two we vote in another eight children to the leadership roles. The Faction captains have not been voted for yet.

Children Left in Cars

It is highly recommended that children are not left in their parent’s cars without the parent being present. Unfortunately, recently we have heard of two tragic accidents where children have died while being in a car unattended. On a typical Australian summer day, the temperature inside a parked car can be more than 30°C hotter than outside the car. That means that on a 30°C day, the temperature inside the car can reach over 60°C! A child left in a parked car under those conditions for even a few minutes can very quickly become distressed, dehydrated and can die from organ failure. I would like to remind everyone of best practise regarding this matter.

School Canteen

The children have been reminded that when purchasing from the canteen they are only to buy products for themselves and not use their change to purchase all their friends additional items.

Student Birthdays

Please note any items that you wish for your child to share to help celebrate their birthday will be given to their classmates at the end of the school day. This allows for parents to have knowledge of what their children are eating.

Principal

Free Student Desks

We have an abundance of student desks that are free to good home! If you are interested in acquiring one or more of them, please put your name down at the office.

Has your contact information changed?

Please notify the office if any of your contact details have changed. It is important that we have the correct contact information for Parents/Carer’s and Students for general correspondence and in the case of an emergency.

School Banking

Hampton Park Primary School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students.

School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.

The rewards available during 2020 are:

Terry Denton’s Activity Book
Mini Soccer Ball (size 2)
Treetop Stationary Set
Treetop Handball
Tomato Seed Kit
Magic Mist Drink Bottle
Emoji Wallet
Snakes & Ladders Game

School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.

Getting involved in School Banking is easy!

All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:

  1. Online - Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
  2. In branch - Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.

If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.

Connie will be in the library on Wednesday mornings from 8:15am. If you are unable to make this time, deposit books can also be left in the P&C dropbox in the office. For more information, please contact us info@hppspandc.org.au or see Connie on Wednesday mornings.
