Principal’s Report

We are definitely on the downhill slide to the end of the year, with less than five weeks to go. These five weeks are possibly the busiest of the whole school year. The teachers are very busy report writing and being involved with curriculum and finance planning for 2021.

School Swimming

Thank you to all the families that have taken up the opportunity to attend in-term school swimming lessons. We have had 97% of the students enrolled to attend. This is an outstanding number of children learning to swim and the highest number we have had for years. Certainly the weather in the second week has been kinder to the children.

Up-Coming School Events

There are also many whole school events that occur at this time of the year. We have a Swimming Carnival in Week 8, Year Six Presentation in Week 9, Book Awards for Years One to Six in Week 10, K/PP Presentation in Week 10, our Values Day in Week 9 and the classes have their GFT (Good Fun Times) day. The students also have the Talent Show on the last Thursday afternoon. All events are very enjoyable for the students and there is a lot of preparation work that goes on behind the scenes.

Some factors that we have to take into consideration this year are the restrictions from COVID-19. We have been advised that we are still under Phase 4 restrictions for the schools. The impact of this relates to parents on the school site.

For the Year Six Presentation on Wednesday 9th December, the students are allowed to invite two family members to the Presentation Assembly.

The same goes for the Book Awards on Tuesday 15th December, two family members per student receiving an award. Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate those wonderful parents who are interested in attending the event even though they don’t have a child receiving an award.

With the COVID restrictions we can only have 100 parents on site at any time. Owing to this, for the Kindergarten/Pre-Primary Presentation Assembly on Wednesday 16th November, we unfortunately can only accommodate one parent per child as we have just under 100 students involved in this assembly. We know this will be a disappointment for many families, unfortunately as a Government school we do need to adhere to these guidelines.

Christmas Disco

Again owing to COVID restrictions the P&C are unable to hold the Christmas disco this year. The Student Councillors however, will hold an in-school disco at recess on Thursday 17th December in the undercover area. The students are invited to attend school in free dress, possibly Christmas outfits if they have them. We will extend the recess break on this morning.

After lunch on this day we will hold the Hampton Park Talent Show.

Values Day

This year we will again have the giant water slides on the school oval. This year we will have it on the Friday of Week 9, 11th December 2020. Hopefully this will give the children four days the following week to collect all the lost property. More information will be given closer to the date.

Administration Building

The new admin building should be at practical completion by December 9th. At this stage we can start moving items across from the old building to the new. The ramp at the entrance to the school off Hamersley Avenue is almost ready to use. Thank you to everyone for your patience in waiting for this. It has been constructed as part of the new admin building.

Merit Awards

Congratulations to the Certificate and Award winners at our last assembly.

Recycling News

On the 1st December it is the change of season and time to change your toothbrushes. If your toothbrush is shaggy and needs changing, please bring them to PP2 or Room 1. Your child will receive 100 faction points for every toothbrush and every empty toothpaste tube they bring in. Please do not send them to landfill.

We are also collecting aluminium coffee pods and for the next two months we get double points for all the pods we send to TerraCycle. Please save your used pods and send them to PP1.

Bread tags are also being collected by Cluster 3. For every kg of bread tags, we send to Terracycle, a donation is made to the RSPCA. It is a great cause and prevents plastic going to landfill.

Thank you for your help with these recycling challenges.

Christmas Cards and Gifts

Whilst we love seeing children spreading the joy of Christmas through the giving of cards, candy canes and the like we ask that this is kept for the last week of term. It can be quite disruptive to the class. We appreciate your co-operation with this.
