Principal’s Report

I trust everyone enjoyed their long weekend celebrating WA Day.

Last Friday’s Professional Learning day was very busy for all our staff. We also farewelled Ms Erin McLaren for the next twelve months as she is now on maternity leave. Mrs Marie Gardner and her husband are now the proud parents of a baby boy, Winston Benjamin Gardner. Best wishes and congratulations to everyone.

Lacrosse Training

The senior students have had an opportunity over the last two weeks to learn lacrosse, it is great to see the variety of sport the children have on offer here. Thank you to Mr Lee for organising this and for applying for the grants that allow us to pay for the guest sport presenters.

School Uniforms

It was fabulous to see a photo of the children from Rooms Six and Seven last week with almost all of them wearing the school jacket. It looked terrific. Please do remember though to mark school jackets with your child’s name, we already have several unnamed jackets hanging in the lost property outside the staff room.

School Survey

A gentle reminder to parents to please complete the school survey. To date only 8.5% have completed it and another 4.6% have started it but not completed it. In 2018 when we last did the survey 46.4% of our parents completed it. If you are one of the 24 who have completed the survey already, I thank you. There is still time, the survey will close at midnight next Monday 14th June. If you have lost the link it is below.

Swimming Lessons

Thank you to everyone that has already returned your swimming note and payment. We have had a great response already. The notes went home last week for students in Pre Primary to Year Six. It is always terrific to see our parents attending the swimming centre when their child has a lesson but please do be mindful of the following points:

  • Please do not give your child food at the end of their lesson, they are not allowed to have it on the bus.
  • If assisting in the change rooms you do need to have an active ‘Working with Children’s Card’. This is a government requirement. Cards are applied for at Australia Post Offices. Either Mrs Clamp or I can sign them for you. We do have an appropriate number of staff at the centre to assist the children.
  • Please do not take your child from the area that the teachers have requested that the children be in, it makes double checking that all are present very difficult. I’m sure you can all appreciate how vigilant the staff have to be when children are near water.

Thank you again to those who have already paid. I believe teaching children to swim is one of the most precious gifts we can give here on our island country.

Education Awards

As previously mentioned the awards are open and you are welcome to nominate any staff members that you believe do outstanding work in their role at the school. Nominations close on the 8th July 2021. For further information please visit the link below.

Sausage Sizzle – Year Six Fundraiser

On Tuesday 15th June, the Year Sixes will be holding their annual sausage sizzle. It is $5 for a sausage in a bun with sauce and a juice box. Please help our Year Sixes raise money for their special end of year celebrations. One order form per child please and monies to be paid in cash and dropped in the School Payments box at the front office.

Zero Waste Lunch Challenge

For the month of May, the students from Pre Primary to Year Six participated in a Zero Waste Lunch challenge. It has been pleasing to see a lot less rubbish around the school and a lot healthier looking lunchboxes. Thank you to all the parents who got on board and supported this challenge.

Chinese News

It is time for a fun cultural activity in the Chinese classroom. We are going to be making spring rolls. Yes, again. Did you know, "spring rolls" are a popular traditional Chinese food eaten during festive occasions including Chinese New Year? They not only mark the advent of Spring, but the little rolls resemble bars of gold!

This has been a very long term and I am pleased to see how most students have applied themselves to engage in language tasks in class. We are making dim sum morsels from 14th to 16th of June (Week Nine). Coincidentally, the 14th of June also marks the Dragon Boat Festival. I believe our students are very much looking forward to this cultural activity which will take place during their Chinese lesson time. I am so glad several parents have volunteered to come in and help on the day. If you can spare an hour or two, please come in and support your child who will truly appreciate your presence and involvement at school. Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries regarding this activity. Thank you.

Eagle’s Cup

Hampton has completed the first half of our Eagle’s Cup games with Noranda, Hillcrest and Camboon Primary Schools. All of our teams playing football, netball and soccer have had the joy of winning and experienced the “learning” gained from defeat. All teams will now play a Mini Lightning Carnival on Friday to finish off the Eagle’s Cup season. Football and soccer will be played a short walk down Payne Road to Emberson Reserve, netball at Hampton Park and our basketballers will be heading over to Camboon. Good Luck to all participating.

The canteen is still available for ordering, please mark your order with EARLY LUNCH in Rooms Six to Nine.

Winter Carnival

Our teams will be off to play Rawlinson, Beechboro, East Beechboro, West Beechboro and Anzac Terrace in the annual Winter Carnival. The students from Rooms Six to Nine all have the opportunity to play a sport in a lightning carnival format. The carnival is an all-day event so kids will need to bring their snacks, lunch and drinks with them.

The carnival will be at Altone Reserve for football, soccer and modcrosse. Netball will be played at West Beechboro Primary School.

Notes will be coming home shortly, bus fare will be $5.

Modcrosse Clinics

The students from Year Three to Six have been taking part in Modcrosse clinics over the last week. Many have shown a very good skill level in a fast moving running game using netted sticks to catch and throw a small rubber ball to team mates and then fling it at a goal! Bayswater Lacrosse is our local team and they would welcome anyone who wishes to give Lacrosse a go.

Swimming Lessons

Swimming Lessons are approaching quickly. We have had a great response so far, please keep the return note and enrolments coming in.

The Hampton Herald News

You may not know this, but Hampton Park Primary School now have their own News and Media team! These dedicated senior veranda students have been meeting with Mr Evangelista every Tuesday afternoon during 'Clubs' in Term Two. They have studied all about the news, including how to gather evidence, conduct an interview, write a script and record a segment.

After weeks of hard work, we finally produced our first official episode which came out for all of the classes in the school to watch in Week Seven. We covered a whole range of stories such as the Eagles Cup, lacrosse clinics, the Year Six students making Hollywood movie effects and elephant toothpaste at Hampton Senior High School and the launch of Gardening Club. Our reporters did a fantastic job and all of the classes thoroughly enjoyed watching some familiar faces reporting on some great stories from around the school!
