Principal’s Report
Welcome back to everyone after a very wet two week holiday. The term has started off very smoothly but also with a bang. As with every year, Term Three is always extremely busy and 2021 is no different.
Building Works
Over the holiday we have had major works completed in the cluster areas with new ceilings and walls put in. This has given the area a much needed revamp. The science room has also had brand new windows installed, which will keep our budding scientists and science teacher very happy in the more extreme weather conditions.
Sports News
It is that time of the year again when the athletics carnival is almost upon us. Hopefully your children are urging you to take them to the park to practise their running. The carnival will be in Week Eight and we are hoping for another fantastic and successful carnival. It is always a highlight on the school calendar. We had a very challenging but successful Cross Country event on Friday 23rd July. In the rain, Mr Lee managed to get through all the year groups and our finalists are ready for the Interschool Cross Country this Friday 30th July. Congratulations to everyone who gave it a go on Friday. Best of luck to those competitors racing at the Interschool.
Incursions
We were very fortunate to have the Western Australian Police Pipe Band come and entertain us with some wonderful and very loud bagpipe music on Thursday 22nd July. The students were particularly entertained by the performers’ kilts and the amazing tunes that can be created by the bagpipe. This week we have two incursions taking place. Firstly, a Water Wise incursion for our Year One to Six students and then our K/PP students are being visited by some special guests from the Browne’s Dairy.

NAIDOC Week
The students participated in some really interesting NAIDOC activities on Wednesday 21st July. The weather didn’t allow us to complete our whole school activity, however, the students were able to take part in some engaging and worthwhile activities within their classrooms.

Faction Cross Country
Possibly wet, definitely windy, some moaning and many meters to run all adds up to Faction Cross Country time. Most of those things occurred on Friday 23rd July as the Year Three to Six students put on a brave face to compete for their own personal glory, a place in the Interschool Cross Country team and faction points.
Thank you to the hardy parents who battled wind and showers to cheer on their athletes. Thanks to the Faction Captains and Vice-Captains for braving the wet, with perhaps too much enthusiasm, and providing encouragement and a guiding light for the runners in each race.
The kids who regularly take part in some form of fitness activity usually shine in the distance events and to those who got on a treadmill or went for a run of their own volition during the holidays earned their rewards on Friday. The final results were:

Water Wise Incursion
On Monday 26th July, students from Years One to Six participated in a range of interesting and engaging Water Wise incursions, presented by Megan Brown from the Water Corporation.
The students learnt the importance of water in our lives and why we need to conserve water. They also identified ways they could reduce water consumption at home. Quiz them to find out some tips!

NAIDOC Week Activities
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to come together and celebrate. The theme for NAIDOC 2021 was ‘heal country’. As a school, Hampton Park Primary celebrated NAIDOC Day with an awareness of the Dreamtime story and Australian symbols. We used earth coloured sand to trace the symbols and discussed the meanings. Each student then had the opportunity to use black scratch paper to tell their own dreamtime story using the learned symbols. The children were engaged and embraced all learning with enthusiasm.
