Principal’s Report

Hello to the wonderful community of Hampton Park Primary. Last week was certainly a busy one with situations changing daily. I sent out a Connect notice thanking everyone for their support. If you didn’t receive that, please now accept my thanks for how well everyone managed the changes last week.

Covid Notification

If you should need to inform the school of a positive Covid case in your family or any other issue, please use the Hampton.PS@education.wa.edu.au email address. This can be done from either the website, the app or your own email account. By directing your email to this address we can then ensure the necessary information is distributed to those who require it.

Communication

If you haven’t activated your Connect account please do so as soon as possible as it is the most effective means of communicating important information. In a recent survey, the teachers voted to continue with Connect to communicate and to send out Remote Learning Packages should the need arise. If you are having trouble with the link please contact the front office or visit in person. 411 parent members viewed my notice last Thursday, which is great.

An SMS message was also sent out last Thursday at approximately 2:50pm. If you did not receive that message then again please contact the front office. If you have changed any contact details please send your child to the office for a yellow ‘Change of Details Notification’ form. That way we can ensure that we have your most up to date information.

Sand Pit Mini Busy Bee

A huge thank you to the parents from Early Childhood who responded to the call for help to shovel sand last week. The task was completed so quickly by the helpers that came, even the little ones got involved. Many thanks. We are currently advertising for a new gardener.

School Board Parent Member

We are still seeking nominations for parents to sit on the School Board. Officially nominations close today, however owing to current industrial action, the Board meeting has been postponed. I am happy to accept nominations up until Wednesday 2nd March. Please contact Mrs Janice Clamp for a nomination form.

Lion Dancing – Chinese New Year Celebration

It was a lovely morning on Wednesday 9th February, when we assembled at the quadrangle in eager anticipation of the Morley Chung Wah Dance Troupe’s arrival. The Lion Dance performance was to be the highlight of the Chinese New Year celebration of the Year of the Tiger and it certainly was. There was a calm excitement in the air and our students from Kindy to Year Six were not short of patience nor respect. When the two white lions finally made their appearance slightly after 9am, all students watched in awed silence as the lions danced, pranced, jumped and lifted up in the air to the beat of the drum. The magnificent lions offered mandarins to Mrs Arnott, as well as to some of the students. The colour of the mandarins symbolizes good luck and the eating of the lettuce brings in good fortune. We shall let the pictures captured by Mrs Sirrichoti speak for themselves.

Recycling News

Hampton Park Primary School collected 163.2 kilograms of batteries in 2021 and is the most improved school in the medium category.

The Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) and the City of Bayswater would like to extend their congratulations to the students at Hampton Park Primary School for improving their collection total by 61.9kgs of batteries from the previous year. A total of 163.2kgs was recorded for 2021 which meant winning the most improved school in the medium category.

In recognition of this fantastic achievement, Hampton Park Primary School have been awarded the following prize:

Rezap pro reusable battery charger + organiser and tester - Battery charger that extends the life of your batteries, you save money and reduce the impact on your environment. You can recharge up to four AAA, AA, C, D and 9V type cells at the same time. Convenient battery organiser for easy storage and removable tester to make sure batteries are ready to use.

Batteries contain recyclable elements including carbon, zinc, manganese, lithium, nickel, copper and aluminium. They also contain hazardous materials which can pollute groundwater and soil. And yet, 94% of batteries are still disposed of in household rubbish bins.

The EMRC Battery Collection Program began in 2003, and has grown from just 5 schools participating, to 100 across the region. Since 2005, more than 180 tonnes of household batteries have been diverted from landfill. Hampton Park Primary School have been diverting batteries 2007.

Reminder - You can bring in the following batteries for recycling:

Button batteries
AA and AAA batteries
C and D batteries
6V and 9V batteries

Students and their families are encouraged to collect used batteries and bring them to school. By doing so, you can help the school win great prizes in the EMRC’s annual Battery Collection Competition! For more information contact EMRC Waste Education on 9424 2279.
