Principal’s Report

This term has thrown a few new challenges our way, with regulations and best practise for COVID rules changing constantly. Thank you to all members of the community for the way you so willingly comply and adapt to the new changes. Our case numbers do continue to grow each day. On Saturday evening I had to contact 24 families to advise them that their child was a non-household close contact and every single parent that I spoke to couldn’t have been more supportive of the situation and the rules that then had to be applied. It is wonderful to work in such a supportive community.

Flu Vaccines

As previously mentioned, we are running at least two clinics here for the flu vaccines this year. The first clinic is Monday 9th May from 9.00am to 11.00am, then Friday 13th May from 2.30pm to 4.30pm for the second. For Medicare purposes, the clinics are capped at 60 bookings. It may be possible to have a third clinic if there is a high demand for appointments. You will need to use the QR code or the attached booking form to book your appointment. If you are booking for one of the school children you will need to sign them out from the front office first if during school hours. We will be using Cluster 5 for the clinics. There will be a Doctor, Nurse and a Clinical Assistant here for the clinics.

You must have a valid Medicare card to book an appointment. No other payment is required.

Each person attending the clinic must have an individual booking. Families are welcome to attend together even if the booking times of family members are not together.

Once you enter your details, select a time for the clinic and submit, your booking is added onto the scheduler and an email confirmation will be automatically generated. Should people who book into the clinic wish to cancel they will need to email fluvac@redimed.com.au . This email address appears on the confirmation email.

Birthdays

Previously we have asked families who have wanted to share in their child’s birthday celebrations to send in, for example individual cupcakes for the class. These would then be distributed at home time so families could see what additional food their child had.

With our current concerns of Covid we have to consider hygiene as our number one priority. Therefore, we are asking if you have something to share it needs to be individually wrapped. For example, Freddo Frogs. This way the items can be passed out at home time without being touched by others. One item per class member is sufficient. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

School Contacts

If your contact details have changed please remember to inform the school of the change. It can be quite distressing for children when they are unwell or seriously injured and we can’t contact the family. Is also applies to additional contacts on the system.

News from Room 1

Room 1 have been very busy with their Talk For Writing this year. Last week the chairs went on strike in Room 1 and 3 because they didn’t like the way they were being treated. They had had enough and the chairs were taped off with a message from the Chair Association that their treatment had to improve. The message was firm and stated that all the students needed to show respect while sitting on the chairs or they would be gone. The students then had time to plan a persuasive letter to address the concerns stated by the Chair Association to try and win their chairs back. Fortunately, the Chair Association were persuaded by their powerful arguments and they all returned to work. The students all used their persuasive argument to make sure they weren’t left kneeling on the floor.

The following was a fun hook for our new unit of Persuasive Writing. We are using our story map to recite ‘Why We Should Wear Masks’. Well done to our class of enthusiastic writers!

National Ride2School Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel. It is a day where students, teachers and parents discover the joy of riding and kick-start healthy habits for the future.

Correct Face Mask Disposal

Did you know, plastics in disposable masks can take up to 450 years to break down. To stop them being discarded in the environment and ending up in waterways please remember to dispose of them in your general red top waste bin. Cut the straps off before you dispose of them to ensure they don’t end up tied around the limbs of helpless wildlife.
