Principal’s Report

We are almost at the halfway point of the 2022 school year. What a lot of changes we have gone through this year with all of the COVID rules and operating practices changing constantly. It seems we may have now settled into a more normal pattern, at least for this month.

Thank you to everyone for accepting the changes that have occurred regarding staffing. It has been very difficult to obtain relief teachers, education assistants and cleaners this year. We have had over 55% of the staff away at some point with Covid this semester, and I can’t even begin to count the number of students.

Swimming lessons went very well this year. The swimming instructors were very impressed overall with the students’ attitude and behaviour at the pool. This is a great reflection not just on the children but on you the parents and carers for how well you are raising your children. Thank you also to Mr Lee who does the bulk of the work in organising the lessons from the school’s perspective.

A reminder that we have a Staff Development Day this Friday 1st July and the first Monday of Term Three 18 July. This means that children do not attend school on those two days, as they are pupil free days.

Reporting to Parents

The students’ progress reports are available for collection today between 3:00 – 3:15 pm from the classroom teachers. Alternatively, they can be collected from the front office on Thursday between 8am - 10am. Following these times any reports not collected will be posted home.

Canteen Manageress

On behalf of the school, I would like to thank Sam Barrett for the work she has done being the Canteen Manageress since 2018. Sam has been extremely instrumental in building the canteen back up. When Sam took over, the canteen was running at a loss and the books technically were in the red. Under Sam’s hard work she and her co-worker plus several loyal volunteers turned the canteen around, initially only being able to open two days per week then extending to three and now running at four days. This is an amazing achievement, congratulations to Sam. We wish Sam all the very best as she transitions to office work at West Oz. The P&C have advertised the position via Facebook and the School Connect messages.

School Based Staff Changes

Tracy Boyce after ten years of being the head cleaner here is retiring. The staff are very sad that Tracy is retiring as she has done tremendous work here not just in her cleaning role but her genuine passion for helping others has always been an attribute that others admire about Tracy. Tracy has assisted children behind the scenes and supported them financially with required items anonymously. Tracy is going to spend more time being a grandma now and we wish her and her family the very best of times.

Mrs Cynthia Souvertjis has resigned from her role of cleaner here after two years, Cynthia is taking on a new position in Customer Service at the Galleria and we wish her all the very best.

Mrs Charlotte Falcone is leaving on Friday as she commences parental leave while waiting on the birth of her second child. We do wish Charlotte and Tony all the very best for the joyous times ahead. Ms Erin Taylor (nee McLaren) has extended her parental leave until the end of the year, at this stage.

Mrs Chris Bettridge will extend her working days to full time and take both of the kindergarten classes with Mrs Marie Gardner providing the DOTT day on a Wednesday. Mrs Michelle Avichzer will be teaching full time next semester in C1.

I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday break. Hopefully we all return with renewed vigour and strength ready for our very busy Term 3.

Year Six Fundraiser – Raffle

The Year Six students and classroom teachers would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that has supported the footy fundraisers over the past few weeks. We had our 'Jersey Day' in Week Six, which was a great success, followed by the raffle draw that ran through the following couple of weeks.

The winners were drawn by the fundraising committee at the in-house assembly in Week Nine and a big congratulations goes to all our lucky winners, especially those who won the signed jerseys and footballs. The winner of the West Coast Jersey and Football was Calvin H in room four, Fremantle jersey and football were won by Jake F in room seven and Mrs Cunningham was the happy winner of the Sydney jersey.

In total we were able to raise over $700, which will go towards the Year Six graduation activities at the end of the year. A special thank you also goes to the office staff, for all their help with organising and managing the events.

Thank you all once again and we look forward to the next fundraising event!

Winter Carnival

Fantastic “ Winter” weather, Perth Winter that is, greeted us for last Friday’s Winter Carnival.

As we expect from our students, Hampton was beautifully represented by all the senior verandah classrooms. Umpires were glowing in their praise of the way our students played their games.

Lots of second placing for our teams. Footy via a count back, as there was a three way tie for first, the placing went to goals scored, we were two short! The team played 4 games in a row and were just overrun in our last game V, eventual winners, East Beechboro by……2goals.

The Netball teams placed second in another hard fought contest with the three Beechboro schools, Rawlinson and Anzac Terrace. Mrs Cunningham was very thankful for the expertise and umpiring from Jules Bingham and Bec Te Kiri. Thank you ladies, your help in all our Netball this term was very much appreciated.

Mr Evangelista’s soccer teams also combined for a second place, Mr E was very tired at the end of the day as he umpired and coached both teams in 8 back to back games.

Our Modcrosse team was coached by a relief teacher and he too was full of praise for our team and their competitive but very fair efforts. Thanks to Bayswater Lacrosse for their support in giving us umpires and equipment to use for the day.

Please keep an eye out for Netball Dresses and Inter School Polo Shirts that went home with students. Please return ASAP.

FACTION CROSS COUNTRY

Athletics term is next. Starting with the Cross Country in Week 2 next term. The year 3-6s will run their course on Friday in week 2. The place getters will then represent the school at the Inter School Event in week 3.

The year 1&2 classes will run their “cross country” during Athletics Carnival Week in Week 8.

Staff V’s Student Dodge Ball

At lunch time last week there was a very competitive game of staff versus student dodge ball played. Lots of fun was had and although the score wasn’t officially recorded apparently the staff won.

Chinese News

The Confucius Institute at the University of Western Australia recently ran the inaugural Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for primary schools. This is a regional final competition for primary school second language students from WA, SA, ACT and NT. Two of our students submitted two to three-minute videos of themselves speaking Mandarin. Each video comprises one minute of self-introduction and two minutes cultural item performance. Roxanna P and Xavier P worked hard to make the videos against a tight time schedule and they looked amazing. It was an enriching experience for our students as they extended their use of Mandarin through engaging in this project.

This week, as an end of term Good Fun Times activity, we are looking forward to the cooking and eating of some Chinese food. We are cooking vegetable crackers and chicken mince toast.

P&C

Hello Families and Friends!

The position of committee Secretary is still vacant, this is an essential role on the committee that needs to be filled for our P&C to continue operating. If our P&C were unable to continue operating, it would mean that our Canteen could not continue to trade and we would not be able to host fun events like the Colour Fun Run or Christmas Disco. If you would like to get involved, please get in touch via email or socials, or come along to the next meeting and see what it’s all about. All school community members are welcome, we’d love to see some new faces!

Our next P&C meeting is Term 3, Week 3, Monday 1 August 2022 at 2 pm.

She has been a huge influence on the success of our Canteen and an absolute pleasure to have on board. Thank you Sam!
