Principal’s Report

Welcome Back

Welcome to Term 3, I trust everyone had an enjoyable holiday break. Welcome to our new families. I am happy to conduct tours after school on a Tuesday for any families that would like to see the layout of the school. Particularly families of Pre-primary children who will be moving into Year 1 next year. If interested, please email me at HamptonPark.PS@education.wa.edu.au with the date of the Tuesday that would suit.

Power Outage

Western Power have advised us that we will have a power outage next Tuesday 2 August. There will be no power to the school from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. This has major implications across the school. Our phones and computers will be not be operational all day. If you have an urgent matter and need to contact the school, please ring the North Metropolitan Regional Education Office on 9285 3600, leave a message with them and they will ring a mobile at the school. This power outage also means that the Canteen will be closed, as will the school Dentist. Any classes that have library won’t be borrowing books next Tuesday. The teachers will be adapting lessons as no interactive whiteboards will be available.

Student Councillors

At the assembly this week we will be presenting our Head Boy and Head Girl along with the six new Student Councillors for Semester Two with their badges. The students nominated for the available positions and the speeches were held Week 10 last term. The students from Year 5 and 6 voted for the eight positions.

Congratulations go to the following children:

Head Boy - Henry L
Head Girl - Emily D
Councillors - Omar A, Jade B, Cindy L, Shania M, Bruce N and Hugo S

Public Speaking

Each year the children from Years 1 to 6 take part in a public speaking contest. Every child is given an opportunity to take part. At a classroom level each child prepares and delivers a speech. The children then vote for the best speeches based on different criteria that they are given. It would be great if you could assist your child at home when they are practising. The class then combines with their year groups and the best from each class performs their speech again. The top two from each year level are then chosen. Those two children perform their speech to the whole school if front of two judges. This year, Ms Dianne Roberts our librarian and Mrs Sue Smith, retired teacher and grandmother to four ex-students, will be our judges. The judges then rate the candidates again against set criteria selecting a winner and a runner up. During these speeches Ms Clare Moore has prepared the students with a variety of musical acts. The actual public speaking assembly commences at 8:55 am and goes until approximately 10:30 am on Wednesday 17 August. All families are welcome to attend.

Cross Country

As per the Connect notice that went out last week, this Friday July 29 is our Faction Cross Country carnival for children in Year 3 to 6. The races will commence after lunch, weather permitting. Cross country running is a winter event, so children will still be running if there is some rain around. Heavy thunderstorms would postpone the event. If your child is in the participating years, please have them wear their faction shirt on the day. The top finishes of each race will then compete the following Friday 5 August in the Interschool Cross Country. They will wear the tricolour shirt that day.

Canteen Manager

The P&C ran a process to appoint a new Canteen Manager. The successfully candidate was Ms Deb Medley. As Deb had previously been the Assistant Manager this left this position vacant. Mrs Robyn Richardson won that position. Congratulations to Deb and Robyn. The P&C are now looking to appoint some people into a casual position to assist should the manager or assistant require leave. Please check their social media pages for further information.

P&C Meeting

Next Monday at 2 pm is the next P&C meeting and everyone is welcome to attend. Please sign in at the front office and then make your way to the school library for the meeting.

Student Census

Twice yearly the Department of Education require a student census to be completed. The second one is next Friday August 5. Each census collects slightly different information about the students. Sometimes we require additional information from families other than what was supplied on enrolment. It is important to advise the school if your child speaks another dialect or language. We also think it is amazing for children to be bi-lingual or in some cases tri-lingual. If your family does speak a language or dialect other than Australian Standard English please continue to have your children speak that language in the home. In the event that we do require additional information someone from the school may phone you next week.

ASSESSMENT OF YEAR 4 STUDENTS FOR THE PEAC PROGRAM

The PEAC Program provides part time extension and enrichment for exceptionally able students in Years 5 and 6. PEAC offers a range of courses that provide identified students with work that is intellectually challenging. All students in Year 4 will have the opportunity to be assessed for suitability for the PEAC Program.

Testing at Hampton Park Primary School will occur on Monday 1 August, 2022 (Term 3, Week 3). The scores from the test will be used in the selection of students for PEAC courses and extension programs during 2023 to 2024 and also to inform educational provision in schools. If you do not wish your child to be included in the PEAC assessment, please notify the school in writing by Tuesday 7th June 2022.

Hungry Hamptons Canteen

Canteen days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

We are very pleased to announce that after almost 5 years as Canteen Assistant, Debrah Medley has been promoted to the Canteen Manager position. Deb brings a wealth of experience and lively enthusiasm to the position, we look forward to the continued success of our canteen service under her guidance.

With Deb moving up, we are very pleased to bring Robyn Richardson on board in the Canteen Assistant position. Robyn is a familiar face within our school community and has taken on many volunteer roles over the years. She has been a regular volunteer in the canteen, often coming in at a moment’s notice to gladly help out.

Congratulations to Deb and Robyn!
