Principal’s Report

Book Week

Book Week started very well this year. The theme is ‘Dreaming with Your Eyes Open’. The ‘Kahoots’ quiz on Monday morning was very entertaining. All classes had another teacher read them a story on Monday, this will be repeated with different teachers again on Thursday. K1 were invited to dress up as their favourite character on Monday as they won’t be here for the big dress up parade on Friday.

The children from Rooms 1 to 4 were enthralled listening to the author, Ms Nadia King, as she read some of her published work to them and explained some hidden gems about her work. This was sponsored by The City of Bayswater’s Public Libraries.

There are competitions running all week. Guess the Silhouette, Finish that Name and a Book Week Hunt for hidden tokens. All winners will be announced at the Book Week parade on Friday morning. Parents are welcome to attend. All children wearing a costume will have their name entered into a raffle to win a book. The Karen Kennett ‘Love of Reading’ certificate and gift voucher will be presented at the parade. Many thanks to Ms Owsiak and her Book Week team for all the extra work. Extra special thanks to Ms Di Roberts for the great library display and for making all the prizes. I’m looking forward to seeing the display in the undercover area. If the amazing eye that Ms Firby painted is anything to go by, it will be fantastic.

School Photos

Yesterday most of the class photos and individual photos were taken by the great team from Midland Photography, lead by Tom the owner. This is always a fun filled day. Today the K2 children have their photo and any family groups or individuals that were away on Tuesday will be taken. Parents will be advised when the photos are ready.

Staff Changes

We welcome back Mrs Tanya Druzianich for the next five weeks. Tanya will be in the Pre Primary while Mrs Annett is taking some well-deserved long service leave.

Athletics Carnival

Our Faction Carnival is fast approaching. The jumps and throws are on Wednesday 7 September and the main carnival is on Friday 9 September. Please pencil these dates in your diary. We love to see as many parents as possible at the carnival. It would be fantastic if all children could be wearing a t-shirt that represents their faction colour. It is not too late to order from Tudor Uniforms, they should arrive next week if you order this week.

Student Services

We have Ms Sarah Louella-French working here this year in the role of School Education Psychologist. The School Psychologist services support students, families and staff where there is a situation in which the child is not achieving as we would expect them to. Sometimes this may involve a referral to an outside agency or some classroom observations of the child in their interactions with others. Sarah works here every Monday.

Mr Joshua Benjamins is our new School Chaplain. Joshua works here Monday and Tuesday, usually based in Room 6. Joshua has been very busy organising the old uniform shop so that we can sell second-hand uniforms from there. Joshua assists children either in small groups or one on one. He usually has the room open for children to undertake activities through recess and lunchtime. Joshua has a variety of games in the room plus a table tennis table which is well used. Joshua also works with Ms Moore and Mr Ker participating in the drumbeat program.

Public Speaking Competition

The Public Speaking Competition was held on Wednesday, 17 August. All finalists spoke well, and there was only a mark between each year level winner and runner up. I would once again like to thank Mrs Sue Smith and Ms Di Roberts for being our judges, definitely not a job that I was envious of.

Ms Moore certainly put on a musical extravaganza in between the speakers and the students sang beautifully. They reflected to all of her hard work in teaching the songs from different musicals. Bravo Ms Moore.

Weet-Bix Active Bands Are Coming

In the next week or two we will receive a delivery of Weet-Bix Active Bands for each child from Year 1 to 6.

These bands track how active the children are during the day (similar to a pedometer) and the information can then be downloaded from the band to a parent's phone for the children to collect points. There is an article included for parents with more information.

Year Six Fundraiser – Free Dress Day

On Friday 19 August, we had an extremely fun and successful Free Dress day fundraiser to support Year Six graduation activities. We raised a whopping $506.35! A big thank you to the whole Hampton Park Primary School community for supporting us so generously.

Thank you on behalf of the Fundraising Committee (Ishrah, Jasser, Adwoa, Andrew L, Dion and Mary-Anne) and all of the Year Sixes.

Library News – Returning Books

Thanks to Literacy Pro the students are eagerly reading and trying to improve their level. Unfortunately, some of the books being borrowed are not being returned. We ask that all students bring their books back each week to either renew or borrow other books. We have such a great collection of books in our library, it is important that all students have an opportunity to access them.

Birthday Cakes

We understand celebrating birthdays by sharing cup cakes with friends is something the students enjoy. We do ask though that these cup cakes are in their own patty pan to ensure the teacher can distribute them without touching the cake itself. Cakes will be handed out at the end of the day so parents can decide if they want their child to eat the cake. Thank you for your assistance with this.

Voluntary Contributions

Thank you to all those families who have paid their Voluntary Contributions. We’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of paying your Voluntary Contributions. Whilst this contribution is voluntary, the money goes towards much needed student resources such as reading stock and technology resources.

Planning for the 2023 School Year

Now is the ideal time to notify us if you are moving home or school. If your child/children won’t be returning to Hampton Park Primary School next year, please advise us via email at hamptonpark.ps@education.wa.edu.au
