Principal’s Report
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Easter. School finishes tomorrow as Good Friday is a public holiday. We resume on Monday April 24; however, Tuesday 25 is a public holiday for ANZAC day. I will be on Long Service Leave for the first three weeks of Term 2. Ben Ker will be Principal for those three weeks and Michael Lee will be Deputy Principal.
AFL Ticket Raffle
Thank you to everyone who supported the school’s AFL ticket raffle. In total we raised $825 which is going towards the Year Six fundraising. Congratulations to Kevin N in Year 5 who won the tickets.
P&C Easter Raffle
The P&C held their Easter raffle draw on Friday and also announced the Eggcellent Guess competition. A big thank you to Ashton Mytton-Watson, who is the new Event Coordinator for the P&C, for a very successful first event for the year. Ashton and her team worked very hard behind the scenes securing all the items as donations. Well done to everyone involved.
The winner of the Eggcellent Guess was Theon in Year 5. The baskets of eggs and other easter related items were won by the following children.
1st - Tom G from Year 5
2nd - Jackson S from Year 5
3rd - Ryder F from Year 1
4th - Derrick L from Year 6
5th - Cole M from Year 1
Harmony Day
Many thanks to everyone for their contribution to Harmony Day, the students singing with the choir was fantastic at the assembly. The viewing of Mem Fox reading “Whoever You Are” was very entertaining and the children all looked remarkable in their costume of origin or their orange. We all enjoyed the Kung Fu dancers with their Master, from Redcliffe Primary School.
One of the highlights was of course the Long Table Lunch, with absolutely exquisite food for all to try. I myself ate many varied delights. It was also wonderful to see so many families attend and join in with the students for a picnic style lunch. There are still several containers waiting to be collected outside the staffroom.
Funeral Service
The funeral service for the late Mrs Madeline Sandosham (nee Carrick) will be held tomorrow, Thursday 6 April at 12:30 pm. The funeral will be at Pinnaroo Cemetery in the East Chapel. Mady’s husband has asked for people, if they wish, to wear bright orange, yellows, and or floral clothing as these were Mady’s favourite colours. Her favourite flowers were sunflowers. You may have seen sunflowers appearing around the school in many forms, in memory of Mady. Many staff will be attending the funeral. Relief has been sorted for those going.

ANZAC Service
On Wednesday 26 April we will be holding an ANZAC Day service here at 9 am. We are trialling the service on the lawn in front of the new Administration Building as we no longer have a flagpole in the quadrangle. Parents and extended family are welcome to attend. If children are in a uniformed service like Scouts or Boys/Girls Brigade, they are welcome to wear their uniform. The address will be by Mr David Beacham, a returned service man, representing the Eastern Regional Subbranch of the RSL.
Cup Cakes
We are more than happy for teachers to assist in distributing cupcakes to class members when students are celebrating their birthday. We do request, however, no whole cakes that require cutting. The cupcakes no longer need to be individually wrapped but do need to be in cupcake paper for hygiene reasons. The cupcakes are usually distributed at the end of the day, so parents are aware of what their child is eating.
Road Safety
For children who cross Alfreda Ave and go under the tunnel, please be aware that the markings on the road are not for a cross walk. It is a slow point for cars, but they do not have to stop for pedestrians. We have had some children running straight out the gate and across the road, this is very dangerous. We also ask children and adults not to ride bikes, scooters, and/or skateboards inside the school grounds as it is a safety issue.

Harmony Day Celebrations
What a wonderful day we had on Wednesday 29 of March when the whole school celebrated Harmony Day! It is such an important day in the school calendar as it sums up the values we teach all year long about acceptance, showing consideration, respect, courtesy, resilience, co-operation and responsibility. We hope it helped to empower our students with the understanding that while we all have differences, we are all very much the same and EVERYBODY BELONGS. We may come from different places, eat different foods, speak different languages, dance in different ways, but we all eat, we all communicate, and we all celebrate. The feelings we experience are the same all over the world and even though we are different, we are all human beings, and we can all be friends.
The children enjoyed parading their outfits and singing "When the Lights All Shine" in beautiful harmony. Students from Redcliffe Primary School along with their teacher Master Luong, entertained us with a terrific Kungfu demonstration and all Years 1 to 6 children got to join in with the fun. The student body also got to learn about different cultures when they visited other classrooms for the rotational activities and the long table lunch was a wonderful way for the children to learn to try and gain an appreciation for foods they may not be accustomed to.
Thank you to all the parents for the support you showed by helping your child to dress in attire from their cultural heritage, for bringing in such delicious food for the children and community to enjoy and for sharing your time to help celebrate this important day with us!
