Principal’s Report
Welcome to our Week 6 newsletter. For the past three weeks Ms Bowden and Mr Rakimov have been holding a running club on Fridays before school. It is very pleasing to see the number of children involved, working on improving their fitness. The Steam Club and Cooking Club are still continuing after school, with Mrs Salleo, Mrs O’Neil, Mr Rakimov, Ms Oskaik and Ms Smith . The Chinese Choir and Chinese Chess Club both take place during lunchtime with Mrs Lee. Ms Roberts co-ordinates a craft-based Make a Space activity in the Library on Tuesday lunch times.
I would like to thank all these teachers and staff for their commitment to the extra curriculum learning of the students.
Swimming Lessons
I have had several parents query the decision for winter swimming lessons. This is not a decision that the school makes. The Education Department Swimming and Water Safety are the governing body over all in term and vacation swimming lessons. Each year in Term 2 we submit our preferred weeks for swimming lessons. Our preferred weeks are in Term 4.
Unfortunately, there are hundreds of schools across the state that need to be accommodated. Obtaining first preference will occur once every several years, certainly not every second year as some have been lead to believe. Bayswater Waves has a large catchment of schools, as private schools are also part of the program. This is a commitment to attempt to have all children with enough skills not to drown, particularly in back yard pools.
The good news is our school is very close to the pool so minimum travelling time and Bayswater Waves charges less for pool entry in winter than they do in summer.
Student Arrival Before School
Please remember that no staff have duty of care of the children before 8:15am in the morning. Although there may be some staff on site this is their decision to be working before the day commences.
It is also a time that the cleaner and gardener know there are no children on site so some tasks can be performed that can’t be done when children are here. I ask that you respect this ruling. There are several organisations that cater for before school care and will either deliver your child to the school at 8:30am or are already on site as is the case with Helping Hands.
Student Dress Policy
The School Board this year will be reviewing several of the major school policies that have not been reviewed for some time. Recently I took an opportunity to survey the girls on what they are wearing to school and to remind them of the Dress Policy and some safety issues.
Please note according to current policy these are the choices for the girls to coordinate with their tri colour polo shirt - Royal blue; skorts, jazz pants, microfibre shorts, track pants or pleated skirt – (royal blue sports briefs to be worn underneath). One of the recommendations for the dress policy is that leggings may be worn under shorts or skirts providing they are blue.
Boy’s choices again with a tri-colour shirt are royal blue tracksuit pants, microfiber shorts or cargo shorts. I am sorry if there was any miscommunication regarding this.
Uniform Shop Ordering
As advised in previous newsletters uniforms may be ordered at any time using the Flexi Schools app and payments are made online. Alternatively, payments may be made in person through the canteen Wednesday to Friday. Uniform orders are usually processed on a weekly basis. Gus Jeanne, the Uniform Co-ordinator, will send you a text once your order has been processed and uniforms are then collected from the front office. If you are unsure of the correct size for your child’s polo shirt there are shirts available for trying on in the office area.
Colour Fun Run
Thanks to the many parents who assisted with the Colour Fun Run last Wednesday, it was a terrific success and everyone had a lot of fun. Many thanks to all the parents that ensured your child had a white shirt for the event. The P & C will be announcing the amount of funds raised later in the term, plus distributing the prizes that the children who raised funds will receive.

Assembly
On Wednesday 22nd May Ms Lee lead an amazing group of students from across the school in our LOTE assembly. We had two MC’s swapping between Mandarin and English. The Chines choir performed a very elegant song and dance routine. Many, many thanks to the volunteers that created the choir uniforms, the students looked amazing.
Congratulations to the following students for receiving Merit certificates and Value awards.

LOTE Assembly
Our recent LOTE assembly, hopefully, has given a brief overview of our students’ Chinese language learning journey. It is a celebration of their wonderful excitement, enthusiasm, talents and potential in learning and using the language. The children in P/1 and C2 dressed in different coloured T-shirts and did both the parents and school proud with their rendition of “Colours of the Rainbow”. Despite the technical glitches, they were unfazed and impressed us with their beautiful singing, waving their paper fans, creating a magnificent sea of colours. And even as we ended the performance with the “Karaoke -style” (Mr Lee’s words) performance, they continued to take our breaths away. I am sure we were equally entertained by the choir girls and boys with their graceful dancing (we had only a term to practise at lunch time) and the lovely rendition of “Story of a Small Town”, accompanied on the Chinese musical instrument, erhu, (often known as the 2-string violin) by Alvin Lee. We must be just as impressed with the two beautiful masters of ceremony who confidently led the assembly, ensuring that it ran as smoothly as it possibly could. The imovie snippet was to showcase other students who were not performing on the day but have been working just as hard in language classes. I would like to congratulate the parents for their children’s keen interests to embrace the learning of Mandarin. It is this support you give that is quintessential to their success in all forms of learning.
I would like to thank parents, grandparents, caregivers and all others who have graced our assembly with your presence and your support is greatly appreciated. For those who were not able to make the occasion, I hope the photos attached will provide you with a glimpse of the excitement we have had on that morning. Thank you to the parents of the choir members for sending along snacks for our little recess snack party. Finally, I would like to thank staff members as well as friends in the community for their help to make this assembly a celebration of possibilities.

Sports Report
EAGLES CUP REPORTS
BASKETBALL – Nikolai
Last week the Hampton Basket Ball team went to Camboon Primary to verse their Basketball team.
Before this game the Hampton Park team had only lost 1 game. Even when they did lose, they showed great sportsmanship and were very respectful. Going into this game Hampton were confident, coach Cunningham had them purring like the Wildcats. The game was tight and intense, at half time we took at much needed break and got ready to give our all in the last half. In the end, Hampton took the win with grace and respect, Camboon played with the same repect. Another win for the Hampton Basket Ball team, we are looking forward to our rematch against Hillcrest in a couple of weeks. Hampton 36 def Camboon 28

Kindy Enrolments
We are now taking Kindy enrolments for 2020. The earlier we receive our enrolments the easier it makes it for the school to plan for class sizes and associated staffing. Enrolments for Kindergarten close on Friday 26th July. Once we have confirmed enrolments, the parents of new students will be invited to an event to meet staff and find out more about the school and the Kindy program in Term 3.
Please spread the word to your friends and family in the area so we can be as prepared as possible for students starting their first year of school. To enrol, contact our friendly office staff or fill out the enrolment application form via our website.
Swimming Money
This is a reminder that swimming money is due by 17th June.
Free to Good Home – Piano
