Principal’s Report

It is great to have everyone back to school now. The children all seem very excited to have returned, we have many happy and smiling faces everywhere. We have been progressing quickly with our attendance numbers and have over 93% back at school. A couple of children are away still for the usual reasons that children are absent. We currently have two new day time cleaners in the school, cleaning all high touch and high frequency areas.

A huge thank you to everyone for the patience you are displaying with the current drop off and pick up arrangements. As parents are still not allowed on school grounds, it is important that we continue with these arrangements.

I understand that at times this can be frustrating as we accept the changed practise but thank you for your understanding of the current issue. Please remember to stand with social distancing outside the gates and not block the gateway for others.

Colourful Day

A huge thank you also to our year six student fundraising committee. They did an excellent job at organising last Friday’s colour day, it was so much fun. Thanks everyone that participated.

Term Two Student Councillors

We have another wonderful group of students that have been elected by their peers to be Student Councillors this term. Many thanks to the six students who did an excellent job undertaking their tasks last term, they have set a very high standard for the new group to live up to, but I have every confidence that they will.

Congratulations to the following children on being elected as a student councillor.

Athalia B, Ruby C, Rosy K, Elysia M and Zoe S.

Telethon Kids Research

For those who didn’t see the message on Class Dojo, the school was approached to be part of research being conducted by the Telethon Kids Institute. Eighty schools have been selected. Of that eighty, forty will be taking part in surveys only and the other forty will be taking part in both swab testing for COVID-19 and surveys. At this stage we don’t know which group we are in. The research project is currently being reviewed by the ethics committee before it can commence. This is standard practise for any research. Parents will be informed once we have more information.

Additions to the School

We have been very busy at the school over the last few weeks, with some new equipment being installed and some maintenance issues being completed. There are a few that we are still waiting on.

Rooms One to Five now have reverse cycle air-conditioning, which will be particularly helpful when the weather is extremely hot. Those classrooms all have north facing windows which means they warm up much more than any of the others.

New security doors have been fitted to the cluster classrooms and we are waiting on new internal doors and new double doors. Unfortunately, there was a mistake made in the ordering and we are now waiting for the new doors to re-arrive in WA.

New trees have been planted around the school. Mr Barnard has planted seven Manchurian Pear trees in the early childhood playground around the fence line to compliment the ones on the other side of the service driveway. Also four Native Hibiscus have been planted in a new garden bed behind the raised seating at the basketball courts. Hopefully over time these will provide some welcome shade to those areas.

Five large wooden logs have been relocated from the south western corner of the school ground to in front of the cluster block. This gives the children more climbing and balancing opportunities.

The Department of Finance are paying for the netball court inside the quadrangle to be resurfaced. There are some very large cracks developing in the current surface, making it an Occupational Health and Safety issue. The new surface will have aluminium sheeting under it to allow for expansion and contraction, which the old surface doesn’t have. The new surface is being completed in the next few weeks, weather permitting.

We are currently obtaining quotes for two new exciting projects. One is a ramp at the front entrance to the school, this will make life easier for people with trolleys or prams. The other project is for shade to the oval seating area. I am very happy to announce that through combined fundraising efforts we now have the necessary funds to build shade over the limestone steps that lead to the oval. Our P&C, along with successful grant applications through the Federal Member for Perth, Patrick Gorman’s Local Community Program and the other through the Education Department’s Shade Project. We are now waiting on quotes.

New Admin Building Update

The new admin building plans were sent out for tender in April, they have now closed and a decision on who has won the contract is now being made by the Department. We anticipate work commencing at the end of June.

Asthma Puffers

If your child suffers from Asthma and self-medicates with a puffer that is stored in his or her school bag, please check that the puffer is not empty. With the current smoky conditions, the puffers are being used more than usual.

COVID-19 Education Assistance Package from NBN

I wish to advise parents and carers, that NBN is providing funding to assist phone and internet providers to support low-income family households with school-aged children, who do not currently have an active NBN connection at home. This funding will help phone and internet providers create more affordable offers to connect eligible families during Term Two.

If parents and carers want to take advantage of these offers, they can contact internet providers and ask for special COVID-19 deals. The participating provider will help determine if parents and carers are eligible for assistance. It is important that you read the terms and conditions of the offers carefully.

The school does not provide any personal information about parents or carers to internet providers.

NOW OPEN – 2021 Kindergarten Enrolments

Enrolments are now open for our Kindergarten program for children whose date of birth falls between the 1st July 2015 and the 30th June 2016. Enrolments will close on Friday 24th July 2020. Once we have confirmed enrolments, notification of acceptance will be sent in writing.

Due to the current Covid-19 situation please complete the Application for Enrolment form on our website and return it by email to hamptonpark.ps@education.wa.edu.au

School Starting Times

As we recommence compulsory attendance at school for students we would like to remind you that the children are required to be inside their classroom ready to commence work at 8:45am daily. Any child that arrives after that time is marked late on the role by the Teacher.

Children that arrive after 8:45am will need to go to the office for a late note.

Children are also encouraged to be on time or slightly early as this sets them up for good practise into the future for appointments or work commitments. Ideally children should arrive at school after 8:30am and before 8:45am. It would be wonderful for the orderly working environment of the school if everyone would support this.

Year 6 Fundraiser - Colourful Day

The Year 6 Students and Teachers would like to thank you all so much for your support, promotion and assistance with our first fundraiser. Everyone went to great lengths and looked fabulous in so many bright and beautiful colours!

We had an enormous line for our sale of Zooper Doopers at lunchtime and sold out!

We raised a whopping $596!

‘Hungry Hamptons’ Canteen

Our canteen is open for business! We are taking a few precautions to ensure everyone’s health and safety at this time.

  • While parents are unable to enter school grounds at the moment the preferred method of ordering is via the FlexiSchools online ordering system. Recess and Lunch can be ordered either via the app or website www.flexischools.com.au. Online ordering closes at 9am.
  • The canteen windows will be open for children to drop cash orders in before school. Please write your child’s order an envelope or white lunch bag, along with their name, class and payment (correct change preferred). Lunch bags are available from the canteen.
  • Children may now purchase recess and after lunch snacks at the canteen windows. Please try to send your child with the correct change for purchases so we can minimise our cash handling.

We appreciate your co-operation and understanding at this time and are doing our very best to ensure the health and safety of all students and staff.

Mt Lawley Tennis

Fantastic news! Group tennis lessons will start back up again from Monday at the Mt Lawley Tennis Club! Currently there are no enrolments so if you would like to enrol your child/ren or yourself then please email me with preferred class day/time and I will re-register you. I have attached the timetable here.

For those players that missed out on the last part of term 1 (paid for the term but missed the last 2 or 3 sessions) you have 2 options:

  1. Re-register for the term and enjoy 3 x extra make up classes at any time during the term.
    OR
  2. I will discount the missed lessons from term 1 to this invoice for term 2

Please let me know your preference in your reply email.

Please note the following:

The clubhouse is now under renovations. This means there is no water fountain, changing rooms or clubhouse facilities at all. There are 2 port-a-loos adjacent to court 21 that can be used if you are desperate. The renovations should be finished in September or hopefully earlier. We will then have a fantastically sparkling looking clubhouse to enjoy!

At the moment this should not pose too much of a problem because:

COVID-19 Restrictions

We will only have 4 players per court (this may change back to 6 at any time if and when restrictions are removed)

Everyone needs to bring their own water

Parents should try to just drop off and pick up or stay in the car. There is no sitting around area during this time due to the renovations anyway. Max 1 parent watching but no sitting around. Sorry this means no place for afternoon tea at the club for a little while. Welcome to use the park across the road though.

Port-a-loos are available if busting! (Strong preference is to be prepared)

Try to use your own hand sanitiser where possible. Coaches will have hand sanitiser that will be available to all.

Please continue to follow all regular Covid procedures, wash hands and stay away if you have cold or flu symptoms.

Mt Lawley Tennis Club

Our team of coaches will endeavour to make tennis a safe and enjoyable way to exercise and enjoy the sport by continuing with the social distancing rules and good hygiene practices whilst we teach!

Winter Pennants

Team and player nominations must be in by 15th May although It is still unclear whether or not the season will go ahead.

I look forward to seeing many of you back on the court very soon!

Happy Hitting!
Rhys and the Team
