Principal’s Report
Wow, so much has happened in our school life in just a short amount of time and here we are nearly at holidays again. The Year Six children have been away to camp and survived all the challenges they faced. The Year One to Fives have listened to stories told of the different cultures that make up Australia today. The Pre Primary children have learnt about carnivorous plants and how they eat insects. The On Entry testing occurred for all our Year Ones and Pre Primary children. Children in other year levels have undertaken PAT testing in Reading, Mathematics and Science. We have changed our communication tool from Class Dojo to Connect, which has been a big task. Today we celebrate Harmony Day with various activities that finish with the Long Table Lunch under Phase Four COVID restrictions.
With the shortened term and the work for Harmony Day the staff felt that they didn’t have enough time to do an Easter Hat Parade this year and the P&C echoed that by not running their usual Easter egg raffle.
School Review
We recently had an external review of the school. This meant two external people read documents and reviewed all our data and evidence that told the story of what we do at Hampton Park Primary School. The six domains that they reviewed were Relationships and Partners, Student Achievement, Teaching Quality, Resource Management, Leadership and the Learning Environment. I am very happy to say that the reviewers felt that we are on a terrific journey here at Hampton Park Primary School and were very happy with the work we do here. Our next review will be in three years.
NAPLAN
Yesterday letters were sent home to the parents of children in Year Five and Three, giving a brief explanation of what NAPLAN is. If any parent still has questions please phone one of the Administrators for further information. Tomorrow, Thursday 25th March the Year Threes and Fives will do a NAPLAN practise test. This is conducted Australia wide, partially to allow the children to become familiar with the online testing and partially to check that the NAPLAN platform meets the minimum technical requirements. The NAPLAN actual tests are scheduled over a two week period in Term Two, 11th May until the 21st May. I do ask if any families are planning appointments e.g. dentist or extra holiday times that you avoid those two weeks if you have a child in Year Three or Five.
Assembly
We had an assembly today as part of our Harmony Day activities. The next class assembly on Wednesday 31st March will have merit certificates and values awards. Parents are welcome to attend however it is extremely important that parents still maintain social distancing.
I wish everyone a happy and safe Easter. School resumes on Monday 19th April.

Year Six Camp
This year’s camp was a lot of fun! The students took part in a range of challenging and exciting activities that forced them to get out of their comfort zones. These activities included: kayaking down at the beautiful Lane Poole Reserve where the students had the opportunity to explore the scenic Murray River while splashing the teachers (or the other way around) and there were even acts of mutiny tipping one another out of the kayaks and swimming in the river. The flying fox, abseiling and rock wall forced the students to really display their confidence and resilience when descending the 10m wall and trying to figure out the best route to ascend the rock wall and when zooming across the oval on the flying fox.
Cooperation and teamwork was required during the raft building activity. Students needed to build rafts that would hold 15 of them and all they had were barrels, planks of wood, a couple paddles and rope. We all got a sweat up during Archery Tag. In this activity students and teachers learnt how to use a bow and arrow and then were split into smaller groups and competed against one another in a purpose built field. Imagine a really large game of dodge but with bows and arrows. Parents you don’t need to worry as the arrows had a big rubber ball at the end of the tip.
It would be safe to say that the students had a great time. They ate lots of food at meal times, showed tremendous amounts of manners to the safety instructors, slept a little bit…, danced up a storm at the disco, spotted kangaroos in the morning and even successfully navigated their way through the famed Night Walk.
I really want to thank all of the Year Six students for making this year’s camp an enjoyable experience. A special mention to Mrs Cunningham, Mrs Donetta, Mr Lee, Mr Johnston and Mrs Firby for sacrificing their own time away from their families to make the 2021 Camp a successful one and for providing a wonderful bonding opportunity for the students.

Suitcase Stories – Harmony Day Incursion
As part of our Harmony Day celebrations on Thursday 18th March our Year One to Five students were lucky enough to see Suitcase Stories which is a one-woman show with a message.
'This is the lucky country, it's great here so... shall we get on?'
Suitcase Stories celebrates the cultural diversity of Australia. In the show we met eight different women from eight different eras, each with a tale to tell about coming to Australia. There's Eliza Delaney from Ireland, a pioneer of early settlement, Afifa the Lebanese footballing legend, Anna Petrovna the batty Russian ballet dancer, Zhou the Chinese girl with a yen for disco dancing, Dutch girl Danke, Beth Barry the Ten Pound Pom and Bardi, a blackfella with a yarn or two to tell about Dreamtime and the impact of white settlement. Then there's Vittoria, the Italian nurse with a great heaving bosomful of ice-cream and motherly love. The story enabled the students to discover the legacy of those who have gone before, to savour the flavours of those who have just arrived and to relish the fact that we are all very lucky to be here.
Jersey Day and Zooper Dooper Sale – Year Six Fundraiser
Next Tuesday, 30th March, we are holding a fundraiser. Students can wear their favourite team Jersey (any sport) for a gold coin donation. We will also be selling Zooper Doopers after the second siren at lunch time for 50c each.
Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support of our Year Six Fundraising events.

Voluntary Contributions
Thank you to all the families who have paid their voluntary contributions.
Another one of the wonderful resources we have that was funded by voluntary contributions is the Bee-Bots. Bee-Bots are an exciting new robot designed for use by young children.
